Got some work done on the winch bumper today. Cutting with a 3 and a half inch hole saw into 1/4 inch steel plate is a bitch. Got two done, the other two go into 3/16 which will be a tick easier. Free hand it with the crappy plasma cutter we have?...I don't think so. I don't want any Helen Keller lookin holes in this bumper.

Did kind a tick me off a bit the manufacturer blew the winch mounting holes by about a half inch and I have to make them slotted now to get the winch installed. Ain't that big a deal, but now I have to do it. Got the hoop bar welded up on it too...need to get the light tabs welded on and drill wiring access holes, I want this thing super clean looking. Got the mounting to the frame figured out and drilled.

After I get the bed mounted up I can figure out how to order the metal and fab up a dropped receiver set up and get it all welded together, then send the bumper and the hitch out for powder coating before final installation.

OtterbatHellcat
11-13-2018, 20:57
No, I'm on a hold up with some stuff on interior. Bench seat should be done already, but I've not heard from the vendor about it, and I have to figure out what I'm going to do about a sexy headliner yet. Doors are done, but I messed up and didn't do new glass in them when I did that work. I have to take those back apart and put new/tinted glass in them.

ptarmigan is french for Pigeon !

There's a upscale area west of Windsor called Ptarmigan. I use to tell people when they'd say that's where they lived. You realize Ptarmigan if french for Pigeon, right? Loved taking a dig at some of those upscale bastages

NorthEast corner so far. I'm not sure that's the best area, it probably isn't, but I had no time to scout. So more specifically, I turn off on Devil's Thumb Ranch, and saw those moose right on the edge of BLM and Arapaho National Forest.

Tried getting the new bed bolted up tonight, need to get some spacers minimum 3". The hump in the frame won't accept 2". It's c clamped on now with some wood spacers, the bed's a winner on this build.

Did bolt up one of the new wheels/tires to check back spacing and overall look on the truck, and it looks good for the lift in the suspension. Might have discovered I don't like the red center rings but the jury is still out on that, and I have the black ones to fall back on. Need flares for the fenders and finish drilling out the flood lights on the bumper, and get the spot light tabs welded on the hoop.

So far it's miserable! At least it's warm under two sleeping bags, but I can't sleep and am dealing with serious leg cramps.

Seriously though, where Hummer got that moose was a pleasure compared to this. Getting anywhere is such an effort that I can't really put effort into actually looking for anything. It's kind of crowded, but I ran into a group today that shot a cow right in the area In picked out on the map, so that's good. Others talked about pulling multiple bulls out of this area last year. So far it seems like a hotspot. We'll see. Also, just wanted to say that deciding to do your first ever solo camp, and solo hunt, in the Rockies in November may not be the easiest experience.

Buy a stripped lower and grab one of the parts kits from bear creek armory. 10% discount for all responders and vets. They're selling complete uppers for $200 range. Plus if you are a vet and still being offered, this year they're giving away a 16" 5.56 bbl free to vets. You pay s&h, cost me $22. Thanks, and I need to get this inspected now. I am going to call thornton and see if expansion tank is required. I really hate that thing. I would like to take that off whereas i've heard that thing malfunction often (especially installed upsidedown).
worst part of all this DIY was permit cost and future inspection. $70 for a permit was just little too much.
Distant 2nd was coordinate the water heater purchase and truck rental from Lowes at the same time. (I guess lowes only have 1 truck at 136th&I25).

Do too, as in

verb (used with object), present singular 1st person do, 2nd do or (Archaic) do?est or dost, 3rd does or (Archaic) do?eth or doth, present plural do; past singular 1st person did, 2nd did or (Archaic) didst, 3rd did, past plural did; past participle done; present participle do?ing.

or

due toprep.Because of.

Usage Note: Due to has been widely used for many years as a compound preposition like owing to, but some criticshave insisted that due should be used only as an adjective.

Um, just heard this statement on the 11am news (paraphrased):

"The light bulbs were out of the sockets & there was swat teams with ak47s in the hallway."

If anyone is still in contact with High Class White Trash....seems my contact number for him is non functional. I was looking to see if he wanted to do a bid for a commercial building in the Wheat Ridge area.

Trying to kick him some bidness if he be wanting it. If anyone can be of help with this, thanks in advance.

Haven't figured out how to do that anymore, board data limit won't accept my attempts to post pics.

Gonna start doing some research for drop receivers, found a cool one today but it's only for 34" dual wheel heavy duty chassis. Might contact the company to see if they take custom requests.

The countdown is running down and in the next 30 minutes I will be on vacation for 10 days. Man, I am telling you, I need it! Not going anywhere but plenty to keep me busy all week long. Might go to the PE Shows Gun Show in Loveland, I haven't been to one for quite awhile, cheaper than a movie.

I just had to firmly remind a fox that it is fox season to get him to leave my trash alone. If you guys were on Instagram you could see a picture now. Instead, you'll have to wait.

I can't believe this hasn't been posted.

Btw,...how is it that you are able to post them? Meaning the method in which you are doing so.

It's a Savage Axis with a Boyd's stock. Basically this, but in .308. https://www.ar-15.co/threads/121053-Savage-Axis-223-*-Millett-TRS-1-*-Boyds-stock?highlight=Savage+Axis

I feel like the scope rail is too high for prone, but fine for sitting or standing.

Just saw this. I've been meaning to talk to you about your picture issue. You can get a google Gmail account for free. With Gmail comes all kinds of things like photos and google drive. I have my phone set up where every picture I take just goes to Google Photos (when I'm on Wifi), so I can open photos from a laptop and post photos here. For some reason I can't post photos from my phone though, even though it is the same app. But for a free web hosting site, it's pretty simple and easy.

Interesting, I currently send my pics to my gmail account from my phone, and then post them from that account using my laptop already. Seemingly, it's the board data limit that won't allow it to upload. I even ran my phone pic quality to the bare minimum for data which produced actual shitty images that would post, but weren't worth posting due to horrible quality. There must be some setting that I'm not aware of that keeps higher resolution and zoom capability from loading here.

Curt had a suitable "universal" hitch which I ordered. It has an actual drop of eleven and a half inches from the bottom of the frame. Welding required, but a decent price. #15902 if anyone is following this build and might find it helpful for your future use.

Perhaps someday Buyers will open their collective minds and make their commercial class V hitches more versatile for "A dude who wants cool shit for his pick-up truck".

Ahh okay. What you're doing is trying to upload the image to the site and use the site as the storage vessel. That's why it won't let you based on storage capacity. What I'm doing is linking the photo address directly from Google. It's a little tedious, but here is a walk through of what I do from a laptop/desktop. From Google photos, click on the photo you want so it goes full screen. In the upper right hand corner is the Share icon (Three dots connected by two lines, looks like a sideways triangle), click this. Clicking the share icon brings a little pop-up window. At the bottom of the pop-up window is a button that says "Create link" and it looks like a chain link. When you click on this link it makes another pop-up with a blue link. Don't push the copy button, instead click on the link, and it will open a new tab with the same image. Click on the image to make it full screen. Now right click your image and select "copy image address." Now come back here and do your image tags (img) (/img) But with square parenthesis, and paste that link. Your picture should show up.

At first it seems tedious, but after a few times it goes pretty quickly. Hope that is helpful.

Oh yeah, when you host pictures directly on the site, they stay there forever. With hosting from Google, if you delete the photo from your gallery, then the picture doesn't show up online anymore.

I had an inflatable pad (that I got from here), and a Thermarest Z-lite pad. I slept in a Golight 3-season down bag (blue) and then a Nebo 0 degree bag (brown) draped on top. That Nebo bag is so large that it takes up the entire back seat of my Amigo.

Nice pics! I still dig those Amigos, there is one (or was one) for sale down the street from me, I've been meaning to inquire. How warm was your sleeping situation, with the heater buddy? Okay so the tent heater is like a gift from the heavens, but it's a double edge sword because of the extreme temp swing between off and on. It's great while it's on. On high it probably gets the tent to 70 degrees, but it gets overwhelming sitting in front of it and it'd be unbearable once in the bag. I was using it to heat the tent up just before I went to bed, and just before getting up so that I could comfortably change clothes and stuff. Even though it's not physically large, giving it about 2 feet of space in either direction creates quite the footprint in the tent. Once you shut that heater off, the temp drops quick.

Now to better answer your question, I was surprisingly warm in my setup. Like you actually felt hot. Hot enough that if you were at home, you'd be kicking blankets off and stripping down. I could have slept naked and been fine. It was a weird situation because if you don't move, you feel hot, but the second your bag opens up a little, you get a blast of cold. And the whole time that top bag would have parts that were frozen on the top so it was like sleeping under a hard shell blanket. Every time you get up to pee (which was a lot for some reason, I think because of the cold), it's a shocking temp difference. Also, you end up sleeping with a lot of shit in your bag that you don't want to freeze, or want to try and dry out, like cell phone, wet wipes, water bottle, wet socks, etc. So it was manageable, but in the end I dreaded having to come back to a cold ass camp and ultimately decided to pack it up and come home early. I think I was pretty unprepared and cold at that level and not bringing enough stuff to be comfortable eats at your very soul.

Amigos are cute, and mildly capable, but after having this one for years I don't think I'd recommend buying one unless you were some super home mechanic and knew exactly what you were getting and had some sweet project in mind. They get pretty cool after a solid axle swap up front for example.

Why two tents Irving?

Other tent is for storing gear. In the past I've used it to put backpacks and boots and stuff, while all the people go in the big tent. In this case the only thing in there was the cooler, extra food stuff, and empty tent bag and the boxes the chains go in. This is the first time I've ever had a ground tarp though and that was nice.

Can someone explain to me why we don't hunt urban animals like rabbits and squirrels and geese? I realize that we don't want people all out hunting these things, but say trapping, or back yard bushwhacking, etc.? What makes a country rabbit so much better than a city rabbit?

I’ve wondered that myself, the urban rabbits around are well fed from everyone’s gardens, yards and decorative yard plants and scarcity of natural predators.
Now, I can see if there was a population explosion and they were underfed & diseased, but there isn’t and rabbits are just running around.

Thanks for the info Irving, I was mainly curious because I used to have the same heater that I never got around to using, and ended up misplacing it during a move (I think), sounds like I should have kept better track of it.

The builder actually blew the mounting holes for the winch by about a half inch, so I had to grind the holes into slots to make it fit. I also noticed that the guide plate holes are blocked by the winch itself, so I'm going to have to get creative with the guide plate to get it mounted correctly.

I bought the Mega Pack which was 9 sheets for $304. It was just enough to do all in the pic and then a little bit more. The first time I bought some was only enough to do the doors, which made a huge difference...it's nice to have the whole cab done with this stuff. I started getting the carpet relaxed enough to install that soon, and the seat should be done this week.

Dynamat is worth every penny of investment. I also bought some of the hood liner stuff, but I'm not quite done getting that fully installed.

Inquired at 2 indoor ranges if they do a pin match, umm not really we're more tactical. Oh is that due to people trying a pin match and it was too hard for them? Derp.........

Powder coat business we have used in the past went out of business, it's been a while. Found a new mom and pop type place from a reference, and if they do well I'll be happy to pass the info along to anyone interested in getting any powder coating done.

My first & second tactical rifle matches were the best 'classes' I could have hoped for; I was truly terrible & I came back better each time. I wasnt unhappy with my last 2 out of the 4 all day. Long way to go before I'll say I'm any good at it & why I'm disappointed I have to wait until April. I'm not too proud to admit when I don't know what I'm doing or own that I suck at something when I first try. I'm fortunate because I always learn & usually right quick.

Don't be too hard on yourself, and keep practicing. Maybe get yourself some laser cartridges in a few different calibers, you can do some fun stuff with those in your own home. If nothing else, it's aim and trigger discipline without question....but also draw/handling/feet/posture...and if you have multiple targets set up around your practice area, acquisition. It does kinda suck not having recoil to manage, but you can work on a lot of things also including safety and procedure protocol as well.

I see what happened there. I was being very 'Norwegian' & that was mistaken for self deprecation. Thank you for the suggestions & encouragement. Ive never tried lasers specific to practice, what do you mean?

Hey, you said you were terrible and you suck and stuff. Nobody is great at anything when they're first getting used to something, whatever it is.
There are laser targets that that receive laser signals from laser cartridges that you can chamber in your weapon(s). There are several different kinds, but you don't have to have the target, just the cartridge. You can place IDPA targets in your house and shoot laser dots at those, for instance.

I don't think you meant anything disrespectful, quite the opposite. I genuinely appreciate the suggestions. I just looked up the laser stuff.

Got my fishing magnet yesterday. Picked up one of our cast iron pans. This is gonna be fun once I can get to some water where people have likely lost stuff.
