It's funny how stuff like that sticks with ya, I'm sure most of us have one that is also unique.
Today I replaced the broken plastic shroud on the Toro snowthrower. It channels snow up into the discharge chute. It was more difficult than I expected with lots of bolts, screws, interconnecting parts and some very tight spaces to bolt it on. Took me about 4 1/2 hours. Probably wouldn't have been cheap had I taken it to a repair shop. But looking at the mechanical parts inside there's a lot of work I wouldn't want to do myself with adjustments better left to an experienced Toro mechanic.
I'll wait until tomorrow to run the machine. Still need to dig a path to the wood piles. We have about 14 inches of snow and it looks like we could get another 18 inches by Wednesday night.
Yesterday, a cow and calf moose meandered through the yard. Hope they found our aspens unpalatable. I've sprayed them with Hinder, a deer repellent, with hope the moose won't kill more aspens in the yard.
We've had a flock of Pine Grosbeaks here and today a few Evening Grosbeaks joined them. Great birds, they come in when the snow gets deep.
Today, I picked up a commercial ice maker/water dispenser. Going to try to run it on the kitchen counter until we move, then it's going in my shop. WAY overkill, but it was a deal I couldn't pass up. Makes up to 500lb of nugget ice per day.

This, although my folks are still kickin'. I don't put a lot of stock in it being 'good luck', but I'm on-board with several food traditions.
And tamales usually showed up for good luck as well.
Finally, the sun is peeking out just before settling behind the mountain. In two days we've had about 30 inches of fresh snow on top of the ~15 inches already on the ground. More than the nearby Ward, Brainard Lake and Longs Peak areas. We're in a perfect vortex off the Peak to Peak where rain and snow funnels as it crosses the Continental Divide.
Yesterday I ran the Toro snowthrower twice and plowed the driveway once, a nearly all day job. This morning we plowed twice and ran the Toro for about 3 hours. Finally all cleared out!
The state plows haven't kept up here. There's a good 8 inches on the highway. They'll get it clear by morning and I'll plow again so we can get mail delivery.
BTW, the CDOT is looking to hire 260 snow plow drivers statewide. They pay $47K to $62K a year and will train and get you a CDL, commercial driver license.

Damn math anyways.

Ugh. I struggled through a crash learning using Fusion 360 to import an STL, convert mesh to solid, and tweak an existing design to fit (printer upgrade part). They took away the option that removes all the polygons from the mesh conversion so it's quite tedious to clean up. I'm a complete CAD neophyte so it's a real brain teaser.
For STL manipulation Blender is the bomb. Very steep learning curve, but super power full.
FreeCad can handle STL too, but I have not figured out how to manipulate them well.
Really suggest FreeCad for simple design as it?s free, has a decent support fan base, runs on even weak PC, and only gets better as users improve it. It has some issues with loosing references but they are manageable.
Maybe one day I'll decide I need something more powerful, but Tinkercad does just enough of what I need it to and I don't really have a need at the moment to learn a new trick. My printer sucks anyway, El cheapo.
My new trick of the month or so is to work on passing a HAM exam so I can use this radio. Not that someone's going to come for me if I key up on FRS.
Almost finished product. Power wiring is temporary for now.

As a side note, during this adventure, I found a GPS tracker wired up in the dash. Bought it used, so who knows.

I'll give that a try. Fusion is kicking my ass. It's just intuitive to me, though I did pick up a lot last night in a few hours of banging my head.
I learned Prusa Slicer pretty quick enough for my needs and am getting amazing print results with it and my Ender 5 Plus (except for spiral vase mode gaps in the base to vertical transition), and it has some rudimentary creation tools, but I'm more often finding I want to modify an existing STL. The vase is a good example as it needs some tweaks like a better bottom corner filet to print properly.
Try Blender. It?s how an artist sees CAD. But if you have no cad background then you might not notice. And like I said it?s free.

Maybe sinuses will be better.
I went for a CT scan today. It’s all messed up in there. I scheduled the surgery for 3/21. They start by sticking A balloon in to open up a sinus cavity, flush it, and remove any polyps. A second balloon to straighten the septum, and then some radiation for good measure. Should take les than 10 minutes total.
On the plus side they don’t do any packing anymore. In and out, leaving nothing behind. I’m fairly excited to get this thing done. Tired of not being able to breath well.

Had to pull our dishwasher out to find a hairline crack in the bottom of the plastic tub that caused a leak. No failed hose or fitting but a rare failure in the bottom of the tub. I suppose that's why dishwashers with stainless steel insides cost more.
It was a cheapie Craigslist buy that I got for our getaway cabin. Someone in Longmont did a remodel in 2004 and sold me their old Kenmore for $35. It had an ugly brown front panel which I removed to reveal the bright white door. It looked and ran like new. This $35 dishwasher gave us good service for almost 18 years. Sorry to have to salvage it but I'm finding a few decent dishwashers on CL. What brands are reliable now? Is Bosch too troublesome?

The hashtag ?Zhu Yi has fallen? is a top trending topic on Weibo, gaining about 200 million views in just a few hours, with some users asking why an American-born skater was picked to represent China ahead of an athlete born in the country.

Zhu, 19, was the first to compete on the second day of the figure skating team event, gliding into the ice rink to loud cheers from the mostly Chinese crowd at Beijing's Capital Indoor Stadium.
But she fell flat on the ice after a failed jump in the opening combination, and missed another jump later in the program, finishing with the lowest score of the event.
China consequently fell from third place to the fifth in the standings ? just enough to progress to the next round of competition.
In contrast to the online vitriol, the crowd in the stadium applauded Zhu as she bowed to the stands.
Pressure to perform: Chinese athletes face huge pressure to get results at the Olympics, with medal counts long touted by the Chinese government as a sign of national strength. In the past, many have faced a backlash for poor performances.
Zhu is among at least a dozen foreign-born athletes recruited by China in recent years in an attempt to bolster its medal count at the Winter Olympics. But the attack against her also highlights the pressure these naturalized athletes face to compete under the Chinese flag.
Born in Los Angeles in 2002, she decided to compete for China in 2018 and gave up her American citizenship. She also changed her name from Beverly Zu to Zhu Yi.
But she has faced criticism in China for not being able to speak fluent Chinese.

Damn windy day today.
Well, this is going great. My last day of vacation, so I was about to intake some ethanol and my propane delivery guy decided to obliterate my power meter box. So that's fun. Guess it's time to double check the fuel supply for the generator
Doh! No fun at all. Sorry, man.
Doh! No fun at all. Sorry, man.
Power company came out. Pedestal and meter have already been replaced, guess it's quick work when you have 6 dudes.
Just waiting on electrician to patch up my side.
Then I have to go hand the propane co the bill at some point
Propane delivery guy wasn't dual-fueling with ethanol, was he? [Beer]
Glad to hear they got you back up and running pretty quickly. Let's hope your reimbursement isn't delayed.

I have no problem paying the electrician from my end, then getting a check, so I get the points.
The electric co was made aware by the propane ppl, so they're billed directly. This fiasco will cost them 4-5k for $450 worth of propane
OUCH!!!! How many years before they make that back?

2 yrs ago the propane guy insisted he could back up, from the front gate to the tank. Approx 250' + instead of drivinggggggg around the north side of the place. Open area, no low hanging tree branches, etc.
But nooooooo i can do this he says, 2 min later. His passenger side, heated, expensive to replace, mirror HITS the corner of the guest house, which just had the roof replaced 3-4 days prior. That one was a $3k bill, for them .

Fortunately, I haven't had any vendors/contractors damage my house or property.
The electrician didn't even bill me immediately, which I thought was odd.
Sent him an email earlier. I want to get the bill in front of the propane people while it's fresh.
I didn't think it messed up the wiring much until the electric co guys dug out the pedestal. It got a little melty in there.
At least these folks indicated they would pay for it. CDOT apparently has full reign to do $4k worth of damage with their mower, then tell you to sit and spin. It's not a motor vehicle if the guy on their payroll did it. But if the trooper catches you sleeping those beers off in the passenger seat with keys present in your corolla, it suddenly is a motor vehicle.

Yep. Similar law to CO. It's probably from a Bloomberg template.
I was pretty well set from the CO ban. I also bought some Ruger 10-22 mags after I moved here that had launched after the CO ban went in place. Stocked up in the past couple of weeks for guns I hope to buy in the future before there was a rush by others to get them
Finally got some 14 round mags for my Kimber Ten II. Wasn't an extremely popular pistol so finding the MecGar mags was difficult. Ended up finding them at Numrich.

It was a busy day on the Palisade farm as the wind finally calmed enough to burn weeds along the irrigation canal and lateral ditch. Also burned a 70 cubic yard pile of tumbleweed and slash prunings from the wildlife shelter belt. It's an annual chore and I'm about half done. It's not a gold Cherokee over there is it?
Had some friends relocate there in the last few days
In Chino Valley?
In Chino Valley?
No idea.
In their case it would be a gold grand Cherokee with likely a white f250, and in a few weeks, a white shittyrado
Big ginger dude in the shittyrado

That narrows it down. ;)
This evening I gave a PowerPoint presentation on the hummingbirds of Colorado to an audience of 51 people at the former Fawn Brook Inn. Mrs. Hummer and I got a nice steak dinner out of it. I thought I was done doing these but somehow I can't help myself. Met a fellow I've known of for decades but only talked with on the phone. He's a fellow big game hunter so it was great to connect.
This summer I'll be leading a team of master bird banders in Sedona where we've banded birds since 2012. Always fun. We've had as many as 800 people visit our banding tables in three mornings.

Disappointing. I would rather have everything replaced with a better version.
I'm going to have a good Easter weekend. The bunny in my trap and I are gonna have a little chat. Could've chatted with 2 of em, but the big one cannibalized the little one
Savage bunny considering the occasion.
I found a dead squirrel in the front yard today.
I should have put him on a pike to warn all the other squirrels to STFO my yard.
