Rock Mount bipods are ~$20-30 and are basically Harris clones. They work fine. It's not like you're prying open fire doors with your bipod.

I'm getting a Remington 700 SS 5R Milspec in .308 Win. Originally, I was going to get a 700 SPS Varmint, then build it up as funds allowed but I was persuaded by a fellow ho to buy once cry once and get the 5R. I have done a lot of research on it since then and from all of the reviews, it seems to be a really good shooter. And because its a Rem 700, it allows for vast aftermarket upgrades!

One of my friends bought a Rem 770 in 30-06 as a "hunting" rifle. It came with a cheap scope that doesn't hold zero, the reticle is never clear, the scope rail is plastic so the rings won't clamp down (they're always loosening), the bolt is very hard to cycle (it gets stuck once every 3-4 cycles), the internal magazine doesn't feed. His reasoning for buying it was that it was "cheap". It's pretty bad.

I knew I wanted to get a .308 and a Rem 700, just wasn't completely decided on the model. Now I know. One more pay cycle, then the wifes bonus that she's sharing a bit with me, and I'm ordering the rifle, scope rail, scope rings and depending on how much leftover, I'll either buy a new scope or swipe the SWFA SS 10x from my .22LR rifle. I'm definitely excited!

I do need to re-do the first couple videos; the swining is pretty bad. I haven't gotten the mount for my new video cameras solid, so these videos were made with my ipad hung off the side of a box by a piece of tape. LoL

The swinging is me hitting the record and not stopping the swinging of the ipad. I watched it on my big TV this morning, and I almost rolfed.

If no one really cares, I'll repost up the original videos. I made them in a total of about 35 minutes last night. I can create that kind of video (low production value, high information content) in literally about 10 minutes...

I have a 5 foot inseam, but the distance between my waist and my shoulders is about 4 inches. My legs go all the way to my neck, literally.

I test my pens with a trigger pull weight gauge. They're pretty close, +/- .01 oz.

In a competition, I once moved from a 200-400 yard stage with movers... this requires the parallax and magnification and turret adjustments to have one particular setting.

The next stage was a 100 yard tiny group hot mess. I goose-egged it because I still had my 400 yard dope, magnification, and parallax set. Goose Egg. Zero-effin-points.

I lost a competition (from 1st place to 6th place) because I forgot to reset my adjustments.


REAL WORLD application is that as an urban sniper (think police marksman on a swat team), you need to quickly ID your target. Opeing up that aperture (by lowering the magnification) will make sure you're able to do that. Get your equipment ready for the next time you pull it out of the bag. an analogy for this is that when you take out the trash, you put a new liner in immediately, not the next morning when you've got an arm full of trash and realize that you don't have a liner in there.

I can also raise my hand for the "bad breathing" club. Seriously, a lot of times I would exhale and hesitate for a few moments, and squeeze. You know, trying to be super still and stuff. I'll be working on that by dry fire method as described now. I remember the trigger squeeze advice from a previous video, although this video was more clear for me anyways, I get what you mean more gooder now. I can fine tune my target alignment, I don't think I was far off on that,...... and the scope settings and and all that is still kinda greek to me, I think all my scopes are fixed mag....I'm scope ignorant mostly, lots of work to do there.

I really like it. If you aren't an engineer and/or your work depends on math (even in accounting, math is so often done by the software but I still double-check against my own quick calcs), it can really show how much one has forgotten since school. Heck, I took algebra courses in Community College well after I graudated with a BA and I know I've forgotten most of it already. (just 5-7 years ago).
