I watched a smart car try to pass a plow train on the right.

It was stupid funny

Soooo... in a few days if you're still missing an idiot in a silver smart car I know where he is, approximately.

I think that's just how they do it in California.

Couple times today clouds were thin enough for sun to melt most of the inch we got earlier this week.

We might still get a little if front moves East but nothing yet.

Snowed all the way to Fort Collins and back. I-25 is all ice by the way. Just hit traffic a little North of Top Golf. Went from 50-60mph down to under 10 mph. I was normal slowing to leave plenty of room, and realized that I was fully locked up each time I used the brakes, just going straight. Crazy.

Most have been one icy spot. After traffic broke up it was fine again. Someone from the springs told me they got like 2 feet of snow.

My first precision rifle match is today.

Reminiscent of my first gas gun match @ Pueblo, because I missed every single target then too.

Well, that's not wholly true because yesterday I managed to hit a few targets @ the end on the closer (under 500yd) stages after trying to apply very exaggerated corrections on the fly. Yay for tactical rifle skills.

Certainly a data issue & i don't know enough about the methodology & hardware or have the experience to know what exactly is wrong or to solve for it just yet. Derp. Fortunately i have a 3 day class next week which should provide some answers & I will be better for the experience.

Didn't keep me from having fun. Glad I was able to go. Beautiful day to shoot.

Pretty much.

What's funny is that I've made at least half those shots @ that same venu/group/match with a 1-6 bdc reticle & a gas gun. Thought I was being limited from the distance shots by the rifle, scope & ammo capability... blah blah words & more words...

I drove my new rifle well enough, no misfeeds or manipulation issues. Really felt comfortable with it's mechanical operation & on the clock no less. It was a little frustrating because my wind correction was near perfect, just couldn't get the elevation by dialing the data from my calculator. Sucked.

The floating platform was a blast & one of the stages I managed to hit on... go figure.

I need to get back into some sort of competitive shooting discipline.

I'm just getting too old for anything that requires too much speed or movement these days.

I need to figure out which discipline is popular with old guys these days and maybe get into that.

Perhaps IHMSA or something? Or maybe some slow paced rifle discipline of some sort? Even something rimfire maybe?

It seems if I do some sort of competition it get me out shooting at least once a month for the match.

Of course it would cut into some of the time I dedicate to other hobbies so maybe I won't.

the people running the local range here are doing some casual shoots every month. Low entry fee and moderately simple fof. Really curious if they start a 2 or 3 gun up this spring. As for something slow[er] moving. Youngest shooter i've seen at these events, is maybe early 50's.

If elevation was off then either you drove the gun differently or your data was wrong, or a combo of both. Have you confirmed the data at distance from the calculator?

Thanks. I would not mind too much if I could find good parts at reasonable prices locally. But the power steering pump fiasco has turned me off on all local parts stores. They carry crap and don't even list OEM vendors as options.
So it's dealer prices and markups on list prices locally or wait a week for the part to come in.

It feels like the lack of decent afternarket repair support is making cars disposable. Maybe I'm just cranky... ehh.

Thought I had, yes. I was shooting 1/3 moa at distance with data from my calculator just last week. Im certain something was changed in my base numbers/settings.

Ancillary lesson is that I won't let someone else 'help' & touch my calculator again. Soon enough I'll understand & be able to spot the trouble.

I appreciate the suggestions folks.

Not sure it matters as everything about my setup will change for class. Trying out a couple different optics/reticles/ring heights while I'm down there. Plus the Razor I'm currently using is a loaned item as well. I wanted to have more experience with different optics before making a decision & purchase.

Also kind of over it, least for today.

I have. But I would rather not wait on this part if I can help it. If I cant find it locally I will fast ship it and have it hopefully by next Sunday. If I find it locally I will just pay the man.
With 2 kids driving I am out if spare cars, so waiting on parts is not good.

Yes, while the lawyers make the money, it's the county employees and taxpayers who lose. Taxpayers will end up paying attorney fees for both plaintiff and defendant, now close to a $million, all to keep the county commission from being labeled a serial age discriminator. But the evidence is overwhelming against them and most everyone who's ever worked for the county knows some history of it. The commissioners posture to party insiders that they save money by not spending it but conservatism demands efficient government, not dysfunction and chaos. Ignorance, incompetence and corruption is their administrative hallmark now. The public will never fully know how much they're doling out to their buddy lawyers to hide from their legal and ethical responsibilities.

Hallmark of every county, city and state anymore. I wonder if it's technically an insurance policy that's paying for it. What's ridiculous is that when legitimate injustices do occur, the process to rectify them is so damaging and lengthy that by the time you do get compensated, you've shaved off about a decade.. literally and figuratively. E.g. county isn't going to pay up, they'll motion for reconsideration first, then appeal it to the tenth. Probably stop there. If your unlucky, they'll get it remanded back to the district court over some technicality (e.g. judgment forgot to label what the damage type was, so it's invalid, or some minor error in the beginning of the case) and in many cases, you'd be back at square one doing an entire trial all over again, then they'll motion for reconsideration again, then another appeal..... System is f'ed in every possible way.

So for Valentine's Day, I told my daughter that she would be making a gift for her mom. We watched a video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOLQHZv1L7s&t=469s) to get the idea. I coached her through, but she did ALL the work, cutting, grinding, bending, and even the welding. I have videos and stuff, but that's for elsewhere. Here is the short version. So speaking of different metals, after I bought all the spoons from the *thrift shop, I realized that they are all "stainless" and I only have carbon steel stuff. So I ordered a little roll of 308 stainless wire. I wasn't going to run out and get tri-gas but have access to 75/25 and 100% argon. Watched a couple YouTube videos and looked up some opinions on discussion forums. Changed to the stainless wire and left the 75/25 on the welder. Using the settings on the side of the welder (4/30) just exploded a hole right through my practice spoon. I turned stuff down to 2/20 and it still wasn't working. I put the mild steel filler wire back in and it worked just great. Now I've got a roll of stainless if I ever need it I guess.

I'm maxed out on how much I can work on that fish as well since I need to get the patina to color the scales. Problem is I haven't worked significantly in a few weeks and things are getting pretty tight right now so I really need to shop for the best deal so I don't have to go spend another $100 for the stains if I can avoid it.

After she did the last weld, I took the dog and threw it on the floor to see if the welds held. After it bounced around and didn't fall apart, she gave me a legitimate high five. It was a good moment.

If he keeps sliding onto poles, he might get a few singles from a certain type of crowd, I suppose.

Well, certainly the civil court system is, and the criminal justice courts too often protect criminals at the expense of victims.

Our own attorney recently concluded a case after 11 years of process and appeals but ultimately netted $14million. Not for the feignt of heart or victims in their last years of life.

Notice the editorial in the daily senile, and the letter from the former county director of finance? We're bringing pressure to bear and we won't quit. If you're interested in some notorious fun I could suggest a letter or maybe a you said it.

I don't think you rallied "a consensus" at all. Reviewing it, quite a few people posted inferring that it was out of line, but didn't want to be too verbose for fear of getting shit on too. I didn't see the thread until much later. Rest assured, I would have called you out. When a site permits people to shit on new users/dumb questions/differing opinions/etc., it quickly becomes untenable and toxic.

Sometimes I have found find myself arguing other positions just to remind people this isn't a church, with official doctrine and a holy book. Try to push away anything that is different, and you might as well be a dying "church" of the same aging dozen friends, singing the same repetitive incantations with every post, and pushing away everyone that isn't in the good-ol-boy clique until the doors are boarded shut. Some people might want that, I suppose... plenty of firearm sites turn into that.

There's a massive difference between arguing with an old classmate from the 2nd grade, and dog piling and kicking the shit out of a the new kid that just moved in from out of state. The latter transfers schools.

The guy wanted to stay in compliance with the law. Which... when I read the T&C, this site doesn't condone any discussion of lawbreaking in the first place. It's his inanimate chattel, who cares what he does with it.
Why that pisses anybody off is beyond me. It's not a two sided ethics argument (e.g. declawing cats). Nor is it legal to import hi-caps into Colorado.

ChickNorris
02-15-2020, 12:49
OxArt, I don't much care for many of your posts either, so this may put me in an untenable position. However, I'm stubborn so ill bite...

I made no qualitative comment to his actions -regarding his decision to do what he wants -with his magazines or to be lawful. Don't lead the discussion to suggest that I did otherwise.

I did make specific comment to what I thought of his selective hearing & his overall intentions in that particular thread because of his posting history on the site.

I then compared his behavior to a recently banned bot, AwetGoat whose posts were equally insolent save sentient intent, hence the added 'with a pulse' to convey my full meaning.

That is not a dogpile.

There were a couple of items being addressed in that thread. Magazine legality was one, and most of the people discussing this here were not addressing the magazines. The other was the announcement of moving to Colorado. Based on previous threads, I think that?s what most of us were addressing.

FoxtArt
02-15-2020, 17:54
Thanks CN. [Awesom]
As far as "addressing" moving to CO:
The guy announced his move in the earlier thread on the topic. Sure, some people said "stay in Idaho". Others said "Finish School". Others said "Start a trade". Others said "talk to your wife". Others said "If you don't move to CO, your wife will without you anyway".... (some might have even inferred find a new wife, I'm not 100% sure on that)

...So why does someone's personal decision between him and his wife warrant "addressing". It's not like there's a consensus of it being a bad idea, nor is it any of our business what his family decides (even if he asked for advice). FTR, 90% of the time people ask for advice in our respective lives, they won't take it. Hell 90% of the time people ask an attorney for legal advice they don't take it. And yes, I made up both of those statistics. But you all know what I mean and have seen it - people will usually do whatever they're going to do anyway.

It's not justification to be asses, ya know.

In the case of this member and his post, we could have simply said something like "While we can appreciate your efforts to remain law-abiding, advertising these specific actions to this audience isn't advisable" and just left it at that.

Inside joke:
Blue waffles is something online that started as a prank, I think, but at any rate it's neither food nor something you should google. Luckily, brain bleach is a real thing and I don't remember entirely how bad it is. So, I can't provide a qualitative review anymore and I'm certainly not revisiting it at work. I think nowhere near as bad as goatse, but could definitely in the realm of *wipe your browser history and look behind your shoulder while muttering motherf%$ker*. Of course, kids nowdays have "safe search", us fogeys always were forced to look at some spread-ass butthole when someone baited us with a funny cat link. Before "rick" existed, that's how we all got "rick rolled". And I know most IT guys including you know what I mean XD

But ya, ya'll are warned, probably shouldn't google that, esp at work.

I ended up using a spreadsheet to compare the offerings, particularly ink page counts vs. replacement costs. Some of the cheaper printers will cost you way more in ink. Sometimes it's almost cheaper to just throw the printer away when it runs out of ink and get another. Fortunately I had just done the research for my folks when I needed more ink for mine. Was cheaper to replace than to keep feeding my old printer ink.

I've been really happy with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. Double sided printing (duplexing) built-in.

Just calling out the BS Social Mediaesque babble when I see it. You do realize that raising your post count is not the same as rasing the number of followers on your Instagram. Or don't you? Have you considered MySpace?

Same thing on gun and hunting forums, "just got this great new hipoint rifle, will have to find ammo it likes".

I'm convinced that reviews of business are almost entirely fakes and that few bad reviews ever get posted or remain online.

Very true.
I cannot trust some popular YouTube firearm reviewers.
Ones I cannot trust as much tend to review Olight flashlight too often.

You misspelled fleshlight.

Try watching heavy duty 1 Ton truck reviews done by clueless car guys or SUV/half ton wanna be truck guys.

"OMG, it rides like a truck..."

WTF, it's a TRUCK!

Half the dumb fucks don't even know the difference between HP and Torque or routinely get them and many other terms mixed up.

Then there are those who consistently complain about how much something sucks but they keep buying the same brand. Insanity.

Why in the fuck do people leave reviews of products that they haven't used?

"Just opened the package, but haven't used it yet. So far I love it!"

"I've only had it for two days and it's great so far!"

Fucking worthless.

Because Amazon sends an email right after delivery soliciting the review. People are too dumb to realize they don't have to respond. Even worse are the "I don't know" answers to questions. Same twits.

I learned something new today. Just did a search.
Hope that search history will not do targeted ad.

Oh God, don't get me started on those. I also read into a lot of one-star reviews that said, "I don't know, this was a gift for someone else."
