So ducklings squeak and whistle, it's actually very pretty. The chicks are growing out feathers and have maybe doubled in size, if that.
The ducks are about five times as big and still have impossibly small wings. They are big enough to grill if needed. One of them keeps accidentally quacking every now and then. I think by next week all the pretty whistles will be gone and it will all be loud quacks.

Irving

Ask me that again and I'll nail your beak to the bar!

I don't think I've tried grapes yet. They were a lot quicker to go after bugs than the chickens were, and they are a lot better at paying attention what's in the sky around them as well.

two more nights!!!! already took two car loads of stuff over to the apt. taking my clothes tomorrow.

the rest goes Sunday.

today I came home to two cops in front of the house talking to an African American male I did not recognize on the sidewalk. My first thought was now what did I do?

As I walked towards the house, was asked if I lived there. I said yes, cops said the guy was there to meet the landlord. I called her and she said he was not supposed to be there and that she had a RO against him and so did another roommate. They made him leave.

Now I'm really glad I'm leaving Sunday. This lady has a history of not getting along with people...don't need this shit at all. Sunday can't come fast enough.

Think I'll also call and have a LEO come do a standby just to be on the safe side. I'll have two movers and a friend as a witness but a LEO will ensure the peace is kept and everyone stays civil.

Howdy OBC...how's ya weekend treating ya so far

Thank you for asking, it started off by dropping my mouth guard on the bathroom floor the other night and it broke into three pieces. I have a great dentist that I took it to yesterday after work and they said it's not repairable so we did another mold process and the new one should cost around $600 when it's remade. The ex called me yesterday to remind me that some car insurance stuff is due, so I called the fag today to get that paid up. Wanted to drop one car off the policy and keep the ambulance on, and just pay for that. But since my ex took my name off the policy I can't effect any changes to the policy without her consent, so I ate $1,100 of insurance shit today to get that back up to speed since the ambulance is due for tags and I need that document in order to get the tags for it which is usually about $280. My house still hasn't sold and I had to pay that mortgage note today for about $1,,500 and fees for getting the new house in Az. are starting to add up as well, as I paid $775 for house inspection with a few other fees pending in order to satisfy the loan process progress in order to obtain the property.

Not forgetting the $1,500 earnest money deposit and title search fees, and the upcoming septic inspection and estimate for repairing a cracked floor in the master bedroom that extends into the dining room area. I'm using well over $100,000 for down money of retirement funds on said property, and dealing with hospital BS for my back problems that are also causing me problems at work during a high need time to be at work doing my job, and the hospice situation where I'm at now is not improving and causing a tremendous amount of stress for everyone involved here dealing with it. All of my shit is being stored in three different locations for additional costs w/insurance incurrence and my meds are making me loopy cause I can only take them when I'm not at work.

So, shit's going great, no worries....everything is going on par for what I've been living with now for over three months. I don't even remember what a normal life is anymore and somehow I don't even care at times. I've got live PD on, a cold beer nearby, and a frozen box of shit at the ready for when that need for fine cuisine overcomes any other current interests.

Seriously, what can a guy ask for that can beat that kind of fun? How's your weekend going so far?

Whiny technicians that complain about warranty flat rate because that feel the times aren't fair. STFU and get fucking dirty!!! If it were easy I would have hired your sister!!! You don't get to pick what you work on, I PICK THE JOB YOU DO!!! You were the best guy to perform the job so get BACK TO WORK!!!

Days like this really make me question what the fuck has happened to people. No one wants to work anymore. It's too hard, I broke a nail, the sun was in my eyes, I bruised my knuckles, the picture in the shop manual doesn't match the bike, the instructions for the ... whatever it is for ... the pictures don't match ... ENOUGH!!! ARRGGG!!! GET BACK TO WORK !!!

It is Saturday and I get to go home in two more hours. I will not sedate myself with drugs or alcohol, I will hug and kiss my wife, pet the cats, have a nice supper and read some Jack Reacher. Its almost time.

Rant over.

all thats left is the bedroom. everything else is packed. waiting on laundry. running one more load to the apt in the car. Then food, shower, maybe a beer and finish this room and then bed.

Guess I can strip the electric heatred mattress pad from the bed. getting to be too warm for that now.

This is all over with tomorrow. totally over it.

Those of you who have been aware of the hospice situation I've been part of for some time now, I will say that tonight may very well be the end of that situation.

I expect this to be a very long night, and most likely an emotionally charged one trying to help loved ones cope and deal with the aftermath following. I would only wish the best for any of you if you were dealing with this type of deal, and I'm more than willing to pass along any best wishes to either myself or this family as I believe final approach is very near. As tough as this has been, I can only thank all of those who have helped guide this family during this time, and the family members that have endured and revolved entirely around this process at whatever cost it has been for them personally, I know it's been quite a toll on myself for some time now.

If she goes tonight, God bless her soul, and I'll be here for the rest of them in the best possible way that I can, even if that means staying out of the way....whatever they need me to do.

Finally got my jake brake installed today.

About 7 hours with a dinner break. I'm slow, disorganized, and the garage is trashed right now with the camper switchover and hard to get around in.

Spent about an hour looking for the damn banjo bolt I pulled out of the low pressure side fuel pump line to install a pass through banjo for a gauge setup 14 years ago.

Vacuum motor wouldn't fit with the connected tubing in the way.

Spent time looking for you know what... a fucking 10mm socket. Always the 10mm...

Almost hoofed it to Napa but then I found the bolt in a last ditch attempt looking in a clear plastic jug of bolts that had migrated to the basement. How it got in there instead of the gauge box (which I quickly found) beats me.

Had to remove radiator support bracket. Had to remove all radiator fan shroud nuts to get a breaker bar on the tensioner to replace the belt. Sigh.

New setup has fuel pressure option on the display.

Major PITA install, would not want to do another.

Cummins sure is nice to work on from the side, but getting to anything in the front sucks donkey ballz.

Vacuum motor, brake boost valve on the trans (lots of creeper time with a flashlight between my teeth), brake exhaust elbow, new serpentine belt, lots of tubing. Thankfully, I already had all the electronics installed when I did the new tuner box. Had to pull a wheel and the fender well liner to access the elbow.

Irving...he might be ADD and need some special attention, perhaps even some meds so he can acclimate to normal duck dome. If you have a special needs duck, you must do your best effort to incorporate him into a normal society where all ducks are created and treated equally. Special education, helmet, etc.....you're really not giving him the opportunity to get along with everyone else in the duck domicile.

Since I know you're a man of principle, I believe that you will take all the possible measures to ensure that duck has the same chance that every other duck has. Free duck lunches, and higher education at reduced or no cost availability.

You didn't name him "otter" did ya?

Okay, so when you introduce new chickens to a flock, they have to re-establish the pecking order, which is a real thing. I was a little hesitant to add new chicks because they are so frail. Everything was going well for a while, in fact in the picture all five chicks (3 established and 2 new) are sitting on that one duck. All hell broke loose later though. One chick isn't getting picked on, but kept freaking out and straight jumping out of the baby pool. I put her back in and no one even looked at her and she was like, "Nope, I'm out!" and jumped right back out. Meanwhile, both the dick duck and the nice duck were biting at the other new chick. When I came in to that mess, I was confused because the chick freaking out the most wasn't being bothered, and in the confusion of everything, the ducks were biting at everyone. I think two things were going on at once.

First, like I was telling OBC, the ducks are protective of their "flock" so while everyone sees new comers as the enemy, the chicks didn't seem to mind so much. Since the ducks are 5 times the size the chicks, they weren't having it and started getting pretty frustrated and biting at everyone. Second, when new chickens are introduced, they don't just have to work their way into the pecking order, the entire order falls apart and everyone has to start over. So, while ALL the chicks were trying to cuddle up with the ducks, the ducks were nipping at the new chicks, which caused the established chicks to nip back at the ducks. This was weird because the ducks would ignore being pecked in the face by the chicks they already knew, but wouldn't let the new ones close.

I separated the chicks and ducks for the night. The ducks and original chicks all immediately freaked out that they weren't in the same area, even though moments before they were all pecking each other. I turned off the heat lamp so it is totally dark and right now everyone has calmed down. The ducks are sleeping together in one area, and all the chicks have now cuddled up together in the other area. Turning off the lights was a big help. Okay, enough about ducks and chicks. What's new with everyone else.

Fentonite, I have to resist smacking the birds pecking at each other like I do at my other animals when they get on each other's nerves. I don't think a duck gets the same message to knock it off like a dog does.

RIP Mrs. T.

You cared for and loved your husband for over 67 years, rose three productive children and loved and provided for them. Brilliant cook and gardener and professional seamstress who ran her own business for decades. I've known you for three years, appreciated your wit and wisdom, and your laughter...which I was able to bring out of her from time to time. She lived a long hard productive life. It's been one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, is watch an able minded and bodied person pass into state that she was most recently in. Also watching her being gurnied out of the house while the family is here is one of the toughest things I've ever endured for sure.

Thank you for letting me be part of your life, and may you be at peace wherever your soul is now.

Thank you very much my friends.

I'll most likely be absent from the forum for a while, not because I don't care about many of you, but more trying to focus on rather pressing life decisions I'm being faced with along with this most recent development. The gentleman widower who is a distinguished veteran is also facing a really tough time right now, and he'll be requiring much needed attention for the foreseeable future, and quite honestly might end up in the same condition at a rapid pace. The onset of his experience might be delayed to some extent, he's a proud man and rightly so....but not immune to the loss of his lifetime spouse.

The best of luck to all of you, and I'm hoping the same for this family.

And thanks again.

Chicken coop has entered that stage where I quickly threw together a frame from my head because this will be good enough and it's just a chicken coop. But now there are certain design elements that I want, proper eave and rake overhangs, that are easy enough to do on a traditional build, but now I have to find a way to properly build the design features, barge rafters, from a non-ideal base. This is complicated by the fact that my framing experience pretty much begins and ends at doorways and closets. Not that big of a deal, but figuring it out has caused a delay in construction.

Why not pick a plan from the many on internet? Download and build. Many even have materials list.

Irving

For as many times as I've looked for coop plans, I've never actually found many. Well, that's not quite true, but none that were really what I wanted. Either too big, too small, or in a configuration that would not be idea for my space. Plus, I figured I could do it on my own and that's half the fun right?

One is standing tall and the other squatting, so the difference in size looks slightly more exaggerated, but it's still there. Rhode Island Red (right) and Barred Rock.

My neighbor ordered a bunch of tadpoles for his ponds last summer. We were looking at them with a flashlight last night and when I turned around I saw that one had migrated to my yard. I let him know that if that keeps happening in the next few weeks when all the birds move outside, he's going to have a lot less frogs! Picture taken in what will be their run.

After looking at many pictures of framed roofs this week, I'm more nervous than ever to stand on gable ends of homes now that I've seen how many people do a ladder instead of a true lookout/barge rafter to support the overhang. I've been on a roof where the gable overhang was not attached at a chimney and was visibly sagging about 6 inches. I was up there with some newbie roof salesman and when I pointed it out, he didn't pay attention to what I was pointing at and went to walk over to stand where I was pointing. I grabbed him by the belt and probably saved him some broken bones since we were close to the peak of the roof on a true two story.

I was up there with some newbie roof salesman and when I pointed it out, he didn't pay attention to what I was pointing at and went to walk over to stand where I was pointing. I grabbed him by the belt and probably saved him some broken bones since we were close to the peak of the roof on a true two story.

Well, not working off of plans is biting me in the ass a little bit. I've got some reinforcing to do as the coop is now very large, but my original plan had mediocre wall framing. Nothing I can't work around, but every time I run into something that wasn't planned well (roof framing that doesn't match any size of decking, DOH) I feel dumb. As such, I'll probably only put up pictures of the finished product instead of a build thread.

Anyway, here is something we can all agree on.

Just did stop in to see stuff....had a rough and really long day.

Tomorrow looks just as promising.

There's no question that I have some support from my friends here for sure, and I do have the kid who helped me tremendously today, and tomorrow too. I am thankful for all just mentioned about support.

At the same time...I don't want to act a whiner, but I surely could use at least a couple of damn breaks that could go my way for a change. Even most recently, seemingly positive things turn into giant pains in the ass in the long run. At best it's a wash, or actually a negative when it was to be a good thing. My frustration level with daily interactivity is on overload. Last week at the grocery store, thoughts of just cold cocking some poor bastard looking at a can of soup was in my head. This isn't me, this isn't who I am....I just need some breaks. Doesn't seem too much to ask for....but that's where I'm at.

I'm trying guys, fanning the little flame of hope that could hold it all together for later on....lol....jesus.

Irving
04-13-2018, 23:42
Well.....sometimes you do things to do things, and not for how it makes you feel, if that makes sense. You can make someone's life better without them even realizing it, let alone appreciating it, but you still did it.

That's pretty much how I fell around here. I make all your lives better and more enjoyable, whether you realize it or not.

If you make it so any opening is small enough they can't fly out after eating one of your chickens, you're ahead of the game.

I was reading on the chicken forum about an owl getting into the run, killing some chickens, then leaving without anything. Just like how raccoons kill fish just to do it, but don't even eat them.

cant say that I have. I ate out a lot my first year of trucking and quickly realized that being a truck driver required a healthy diet, so I learned to prep 5-6 days worth of meals at home so as not to get into that bad habit.

Prices out there are ridiculous and it is unhealthy.

Last week was turkey and veggies, this week is baked pork chops and veggies. A daily run is thrown in as well.

Well, here is what I've been eating pretty much every day for the last few weeks.

I've been letting everyone outside pretty much all day, every day for about the last week and a half. A hawk has shown up a few times, but they've mostly been penned. Today, the chicks have dug themselves a hole to make a dust bath. They really like digging for bugs in those dead leaves below that tree.

RIP for those who've been loosing family.

Yeah, no kidding. Found out yesterday my old neighbor, Jerry passed over the weekend. I was very close to him and his wife Clair for a long time, and Clair was kind of a second mother to me. She passed about six years ago now, but I still think of her often.

I don't remember if I mentioned the older gentleman who was just widowed has stage 3 kidney (medical term) and has 6 months give or take.

I'm also sorry to hear about both Hurley and Cogirls recent losses.

Good news on the back. As for everything else, it's a major reason we can't stress enough having an estate plan, will etc.

I admit I really do need to get on the ball with doing something about that.

Good news on the back. As for everything else, it's a major reason we can't stress enough having an estate plan, will etc.+1 on the estate planning. We have dealt with 2 in the last 18mos. One planned well and estate settled quickly, even with having to liquidate assets and real estate. One poorly planned has had to be litigated and will take 2yrs to complete.

My wife and I have completely redone our estate planning. Use a trusted attorney and get it done right. It is worth the cost.

Wind took out crossing gates at 33rd/Peoria and ATM in the drive thru of the bank leaned against the car while I was withdrawing cash.

ATM now has 3 black scuffs where it rubbed car. First time ever reaching the cash and card was easy. Easy to tip machine back upright too.

Teller in drive thru says the ATM has blown over before.

I felt silly doing the high wind nail pattern on my coop shingles the other day, but now I'm pretty happy that I did. Nothing went anywhere. Also, my power went out and the only thing I could do was install more shingles over the nesting box, so that's pretty much all I got done today. :(

She thought that because it went Fiber from wall > Media converter > Ethernet patch > phone that it should be able to have PoE and she wouldn't need a power brick.

At a very basic level, I follow you on fiber not carrying power. However, what about media converters that do supply PoE? Is that what she was thinking?

Perhaps.

Not having a power brick to inject power into a media converter should have been her first clue.

As everyone knows, fiber carries light, and very little of it, at very low power levels.

I had a customer call to say they were having problems with wonky SAN connections. They had their colo pull fiber from another cage (a company they bought).

Nobody bothered to check to see that they had pulled single mode fiber and plugged into multimode SFP's, including the "SAN Engineers" at said company.

Not surprised with that either. It sounds like one of those sites that has no staff except security. Didn’t anyone ask what color fiber? Or what color gate on the sfp? Seems simple enough

Oh, we've had "SAN Engineers" and/or facilities hardware engineers plug 16GB SAN fiber patch cables into 10G fiber Ethernet NICs...

Perhaps I could use some education on the particular difference between the two, but I'm thinking I mean either.

More in depth, I would say....you use the cloth...cleaning "whatever" in the kitchen...and hang it on the center to dry. It's gross when you're done using it, why did you preserve it's dirtiness? If you dried off clean hand washed dishes with it, that's great. Put it in the laundry.

I don't understand harboring several days of "gross cloth" hanging on the middle of the kitchen sink.

Mine got suspended too for being conservative, pro2A. I made a new account and overcame that by getting a google voice number and using it to confirm my account with. Also use a VPN on your home computer/laptop and a VPN app from your phone.

Congrats. Not sniping, just wondering, why do you have 3 credit cards?

because I wasn't very smart. Two of them are going away. My bellco credit card is closing automatically since I quit banking there. They didn't give me a car loan and a signature loan when I requested them despite having been a member for 4 years in good standing with a 675 credit score. So I said to hell with you, and opened up an account at Navy Federal and got 4.5% interest on re-financing my car (from 14% through my credit union back in Tennessee). Amazingly, NFCU gave me a loan at the 4.5% 3 days after opening my account. The other credit card is through my credit union back in Tennessee. Closing it out. Once my signature loan with them is paid off, that account is closed too.

So that leaves my Capitol One credit card and I'll open one through Navy Federal. that's all I'll need. It's nice to have emergency funds (funeral, car repair, etc). But now that I'm in a better financial position, I hope to never need them again. Time to start stockpiling my savings account and open up a 401K or an IRA.

Closing credit cards is bad for your credit. There is no issue with having many credit cards, especially if you're not using them.

there will be a slight hit on my score for sure but it will rebound quickly.

All my stuff is paid on time. So it won't be a big deal in the long-term. might hurt a bit for 60-90 days.

the interest rates arent that great on them either. My Capitol One is at 9% and my NFCU one will be 0% for the first year and 12% after that.

Irving
04-21-2018, 16:13
Incorrect, closing cards changes your credit timeline (how long you've had credit) which will not recover for years. It will also immediately reduce your debt to credit ratio, which will never improve unless you get more cards, or greatly increase the limits on your remaining cards.

Edit: It will also reduce the number of active accounts you show which is another of the five factors of credit worthiness for personal credit. Closing cards hurts your credit in every way, and does nothing to help you. The one exception is if you are poor at managing credit, it can be safer to just not have it available.

Finally, interest rate doesn't matter IF you can pay off the bills every month. That's all part of actively managing your credit though, and not everyone feels the need to do so.

Like many things, how you manage your financial life is up to you, but I don't want you to make decisions based on false information.

I dont have a choice on the bellco account. it closes automatically since I withdrew my membership from that useless bank that calls itself a credit union but never does squat to help their members.

I've not been very good at managing credit cards either. so its whatever. I have no need for 3 cards any longer. 2 is plenty.

I was determined to achieve higher available credit for a while and was pretty successful. As an added bonus, my score went very high as well. The catch .22 of course is that if you are always paying off credit cards and not really using credit (no auto loans), then your score doesn't even matter.

I have a car loan and a signature loan out right now. Just under $7,000 each. Plus federal student loans. ugh.

and going back to school in the next year and a half. Gotta pay the two loans off and save some money to survive on while in school.

Paralegal school first. then law school. not taking a dime out on student loans for either. Chapter 31 Voc. Rehab for the Army will pay my tuition.

I will probably pay my tuition for part time classes at paralegal school to begin with until I can go full time.

Take the cards you will be closing out, cut them in pieces and let them sit there. You're unable to use them but maintain that credit rating, if not improve it.

Good advice. I was just going to post the same thing.

I have many cards I haven't used in years, including a personal line of credit with my bank. Sometimes I wonder if I should ping them every once in a while (and of course pay them immediately.)

I carry ZERO revolving debt. Only my Amex ever shows a balance on reports, which is kinda stupid if you ask me, as it's paid in full every cycle.

There's a few lying dormant in the misc crap pile. While having good - vg credit score is a plus, I'm mid 800's It's really ones debt to income ratio that gives you loan capability.

Oddly enough, paying off a CC every month does not help you build credit score.

Buy something modest and within your budget, and extend that out with your payments as long as you can, that will enhance your credit when you pay it off.

Correct, but doing so keeps the card active, and most importantly keeps people out of trouble who might tend to overspend.

Personally, I use CC to counter skimming issues with use of debit card since there's more protection offered (though I realize some financial institutions now offer this with debit cards), and to shop online. I pay off every month to avoid paying interest, not build credit.
