Where I?m having my class is kind of in the hood. Gang territory. Last week a 14 year old was killed in a drive by about a block south of the facility. One time there was a guy in the street in front of the building I?m in and he was dead. Not far from here my instructor was at a stop sign once and a guy approached the vehicle in front of him and put eighteen rounds into the driver of that vehicle and killed him. I haven?t had an uncontrollable urge to walk anywhere around here.

It?s been mostly hovering around 70 degrees all week so I don?t think you can use the excuse of the heat right now.

The part of town where my hotel is reminds me ever so slightly of Denver. Lots of rich, yuppie white people walking their dogs and sipping on Starbucks and lots of Porsches, Mercedes, Land Rovers, etc. (Even saw a pretty sweet Audi R8). This neighborhood runs up to one of the main freeways. On the other side of that freeway is some minor industrial stuff and a lot of what appears to be low income housing and apartments and is apparently gangland. That freeway is elevated for miles and miles so walking from neighborhood A to neighborhood B or vice versa would be super easy.

I think I know why the rich yuppies wouldn?t walk a block or two to the other side of the highway and it has nothing to do with ambient temperatures.

What I have trouble wrapping my head around is why the people in the hood don?t just walk over to yuppie land and rape and pillage at will?
