Thanks man. I'm also bummed we didn't get to meet. I met a lot of really great folks on here (and a few weirdos! [LOL]) but you're one of the people I really wish I had met up with. Who knows when I'll be back.... But I'll certainly stay in touch. I have no plans of abandoning my post here! I introduced myself over at calguns and got a pretty cold welcome. That place just doesn't seem to have the quality people that this forum has to make it enjoyable and worth my time.

Wife's brand new car got hit from behind today on her way to work. She's ok and I'm at work so I don't know what the damage is like. Neither party called LE to file a report. Her excuse was because it was raining....WTF kind of logic is this!

She needs to file a desk report. I think that's what they call them, some can be done online. She needs to do it asap. The interwebs should be able to help her locate what she needs to do depending on where it happened.

Obviously she didn't want to get her hair wet. Hope the at fault party has insurance, and she got the info. She also needs to call it in to their insurance, and her own. ASAP.

At least she is ok.. the other things can be worked out. If she starts feeling any pain she needs to go to a doctor.

I was hoping you'd pop in and confirm. Desk report/Counter report, is what I see them called on this end.

The gf was insurance shopping this weekend and wanted help. She wasn't happy with the price when I made her get good coverage. 'I don't get why i need that much...' /facepalm

Irving
05-19-2015, 11:13
I don't think a desk or counter report will mean much at this point, as it is just her side of things, but she should do it anyway just to get it on record.

Just be sure if she starts feeling any pain to get checked out. Common with a rear end collisions is nothing hurts till the next day. Has to do with physiological reaction to trauma. Going to a chiropractor is not the same as going to a doctor.

Again, this is correct. She might not feel anything until all the adrenaline goes down. Also agree about Chiro not being the same as a doctor. Had a claim once where a lady got rear ended with kids in the car dove them straight to a chiropractor. They were 1 and 3. Facepalm.

Been there.

Was doing the plank challenge with my buddy who's a fitness nut. He made it to a 3 minute plank and finally gave up, just spite him, I did the next step and completed thru 3:30 and then stopped out of lack of motivation. I am pretty sure I could have finished it.

Yeah, we are safely staying in the tiny 1-room TLF at Vandenberg AFB for the next week or two... Fuckers building our house really screwed up some stuff... Like putting a wall in the wrong place (off by several feet), not putting in a closet that was in the floor plan, and some other random crap. Honestly, I'm really pissed off, but they screwed up so badly that I'm kind of embarrassed for them. Crappy situation though. We were supposed to be in our house today. [fail]

It was fun to do, too. Heard that DPD has some Segways and we might be getting some business on further Bling-O-tunities for them as well. Hell, even Segway said they wanted pics of what we did.

Yeah, they are fixing the things they can and compensating us for the things they can't fix in a timely manner. They are also paying about $200/day for every day late we close. We were supposed to close today. Now we're looking at the first week of June for closing.

So, the contract says that the builder reserves the right to change the plans at any time... But it's really a grey area. Honestly, we just want to be in our house as soon as possible and not in this crappy 1-room hotel room.

First one came out nice. Second one is fighting me on good fitment and now my hands are sore from all the pulling and stretching.

The JetTrim brand cover I put on the one ski years ago is 1000 times better fitting and easier to install than these HydroTurf covers. However, it was also 2-3x cost. What a PITB they are.

Considering the ill fitting cover they sent me, I'm 98% satisfied with the results - even with the off shade of red (should have ordered the Burgundy or kept it all shades of grey/black/dk grey) I ordered.

If I was gonna keep them, I would have done JetTrim for sure and got a color swatch first.

Ha, that's a " who's on first" moment.

Proper name is The Wild Animal Sanctuary. It is located in Keenesburg.
Folks consider this a PSA: get out there and check it out. This is the closest thing to seeing these animals in the wilderness without going on a safari. I'm not a fan of zoos and this place is like the anti-zoo. Relaxed animals, acting "wild", as you walk 30' above acres of enclosures . Bring binoculars, I had a 7x and 20x set and used them both.

I will post a pic when I get some wifi.

Been busy this week. Friday night we had a good storm happening. I woke up at 1am feeling weird. Half awake I thought to myself, "I know this feeling. Where do I know this from?" Seconds later "BLAM!" the entire room lit up blue. Wife screams, I'm outa bed with the pistol in my hand. (stupid, you can't shoot lighting) So I start checking the house inside and find half the panel is tripped. Smell of burnt electronics is pretty light but there. Once the lightning tapers off, I head out into the rain the check the outside. Can't find a mark on the house or nearby. So go back in and wait till morning. Can't sleep after that and the TV was dead. The next day I check the house and surrounding acreage and still can't find the strike mark. Spend the day checking circuits and appliances. Here's the final damage tally. Every GFI in the house was completely blown, bathroom fart fans timers blown, AC/DC phone power source dead, one cell phone charger dead, two single throw wall switches dead, TV dead, DVD dead and a couple of LED bulbs are dead. The TV and DVD suck to replace, but both were over 10 years old, so I finally got to upgrade (42" flatscreen) Switching out the bad boxes is not hard, but GFI's are damn expensive. Looks like most of the bad stuff was on only one of the legs. (staggered on the panel) Good reminder for me to add whole house surge protection, but the weird thing to me is how some stuff like the LED's blew. The switch was off, so there was no physical connection between the bulbs and the hot. (unless it arc'd the gap) It was a close strike so my guess was it energized the neutral or came up the ground. Well, got the new TV plugged in last night and couldn't get a good fix on a station. Put up the ladder and went to check the antennae. Found the littlest little burn mark on top. Started looking real close and found more evidence. The TV antennae is mounted on a 1" pole that is sunk into the ground. It definetly took the hit. COAX cable was completely intact and ohm'd out fine. Antennae itself is one of those wound coil units. It's fried. There is a small arc mark between the pole and the roof line, so my current guess is that part of the charge lit up the roof and traveled through the house ground. Whatever happened, the final result sucked. I have decent protection on the house, it just sucks that even good surge protection and ground doesn't always protect during a direct strike like I had. If anything, I'm gonna change the TV antennae to a outside wall/ roof mount instead of the pole. That way, at least I figure, the lightning rods will be a more attractive target to ground than the antennae pole.

Lightning strikes suck.

We had a direct hit on our big tree at the corner of the house several years ago. It survived but has a huge seeping crack about 12 feet up. I had some large dead limbs pruned off last summer by a pro that was working at the neighbors (funny what a Benjamin will get ya). He initially thought the tree had been recently struck and was potentially going to have to come down. When I told him it had been a few years and he looked it over better when he got roped up into it, he agreed it was still healthy. The last snowstorm has done a little more damage, so I don't know how much longer it will last. Big ass "hybrid cottonwood." Someone once told me "Russian Cottonwood," but I don't really know.

Last night, we had one of those flashes that light up the room and the crack came nearly instantly. It seemed like it hit just on the other corner of the open space behind the house. Probably 300 meters away.

Luckily, we've never lost anything electronic that I recall. My primary AV stuff and all computer stuff in my office is on good UPS.

I might be offering one (IAI Javelina) in the near future. I'm overinvested in new projects and need the funds. I'm going 300 BLK ACR, Friend and I are colluding on either replacing the barrel on my new ACR with a 300 or maybe even making up an entire assembly from a mix of scratch and factory parts. Looking to modify the gas reg to a 3 or 4 setting setup to get the piston to work right with all ammo. Outa be fun. Got my Colt New Service Project put back together, still need parkerization. Got my latest stamp in, so my new 6" Ti suppressor won't take long. Some people are amazed at my total disregard for "taking a dremel" to a brand new high priced firearm. Luckily, we've never lost anything electronic that I recall. My primary AV stuff and all computer stuff in my office is on good UPS.
My soundbar was on a really good surge protector (almost brand new too) but I'm guessing all the wires connected to it acted as a big antenna to collect just enough of the electromagnetic pulse from the lightning to fry some little component inside. The soundbar sent audio to the sub and surround speakers over Bluetooth and those still worked, but the main speaker bar didn't put out any sound. Bummer. [Dunno]

Thanks, but I've got all the wires. I need to pickup the little box that converts an optical audio cable signal to RCA. What sucks is you lose the dolby surround capabilities, but it will only effect what the TV picks up, not what the DVD plays. Again, first world problems, lucky to have what I have. In other news. Shipping notice on my ACR shows it will be here manana. Cut down my SCAR 17 to 14.1 and perm'd the suppressor mount. Will get it back together tonight. Tools are fun.

Yeah basically... This room has a bathroom, bedroom, and sitting area that total up to be about 450 sq ft.

It's a TLF on Vandenberg AFB. It needs some serious work. I reported that the roof was leaking on the first night, and the front desk said "oh yeah, it's been doing that for a few years. It'll stop soon."

Damn you ya bass-tard! You didn't give me a chance to shake your hand before you left.

You'd be proud of me too. In addition to my usual IT job, a week ago yesterday I got OC (Operations Controller...satellite operator) certified. Never hurts to become more valuable on a contract.

I have shot with you enough times, you could do it. Not the same as pressure of timer and competition. Easier than hitting a swinging target at 15 yards.

Let alone at 30 yards, unless you are some sort of pistol sniper.......
Skunks don't run very fast, he was crossing in front of me angling just slightly away. No pressure, no rush, not that difficult of a shot.

Got the plugs changed in the boat today, had to make a run to the parts store when I realized I didn't have much dielectric grease and saw all the plug boots bone dry. That doesn't give me the warm fuzzies on the past maintenance done on this thing.

CRC sells dielectric grease in a cheese whiz can now, coolest thing ever.

Also got the damn jetski back together after a failed attempt to remove the leaky oil tank. Needed a special factory wrench to remove ONE BOLT on the exhaust that had to come out first and said F that. What a bitch to reconnect those rubber straps when there's no room to work inside the hull. Had to use big zip ties to pull them together.

Washed them again, wiped them down. A little fluff and buff in case someone wants to actually come look at them instead of just try to beat me up on the pricing.

http://denver.craigslist.org/boa/4979466114.html

Did a little more cleaning on the boat. Then the kids and baby showed up and we grilled. Tomorrow, de-winterizing the RV and getting ready for the first lake trip.

When the bag is full, you have to ask the friendly Kings employee to take the bag off the scale and "clear it". If not, you have to keep ringing shit up and putting on the scale or the system shuts down.....like you're some kind of thief or something.

Had to take a quick break to grab some cheaters from the office.

Busy day with the RV and stuff. Tire covers off, aired up, greased, water caps installed, water heater flushed again and anode installed, fixed one leaky connection in the galley, aired up boat trailer tires, truck tires, truck airbags, spare tires, yada yada.

Need to get some bleach for the fresh water holding tank.

Now going to take a crack at fixing a gelcoat gouge from a shitty docking last trip last year. Damn low on black gelcoat patch through so white for filler, then top it off later with black. I should have checked the stash over the winter damnit.

Would like to get the truck tires rotated but my jack is on the fritz and it's a damn chore with the 3/4T. POS craftsman 6T(?) jack that never did work right. Just like my POS Craftsman torque wrench. WTF is it with plastic (locking) rings on tools anyway?

Maybe I'll just worry about getting the oil/filter in the truck changed.

YA there is lol I've read several threads already and intrigued. I guess I should be more specific then. Any 5.56/.223 reloaders on the western slope in or near grand junction I can contact and even learn from. From the looks of most threads like ones from zombie Steve and the kazoo they say watching another reloader and learning from them is the best route to go... In their words "monkey see, monkey do." I want to meet somebody and discuss and learn to reload.

SideShow Bob
05-31-2015, 16:07
Start off by getting "The A-B-C's of reloading.
Then pick up a single stage reloading press and dies for pistol calibers, they are a bit more forgiving than the rifle calibers.
*Attention to details is the key to reloading.*
Once you are comfortable with reloading and shooting your own Pistol calibers, Move up to rifle calibers. Remember, that the 5.56/.223 is intolerant of overlength cases ( as all rifle calibers )and trimming them is critical.

I started with rifles and was a bit frustrated. I should have started with pistol calibers. This is some great advice.

Also, buy yourself a couple of reloading manuals. I like the Lyman manual, personally. Start reading. This is the best place to start. Ice you understand the concepts and processes, get some hands on experience with a friend or another member.

Hornady and Lee offer a starter kit that has everything you need except components, powder & dies in the $180 - $225 range. Make sure to read through "The A-B-C's of reloading several times, and also search for Gun Kabooms pictures & videos to understand how serious it is to pay attention to the details when reloading.

Also get yourself a brass rod smaller than the diameter of the caliber you are reloading and a brass or plastic faced hammer.
while shooting reloads, or any ammunition for that matter, remember:
Bang,Bang pop. Stop and Check it OUT !!,!
If you have a squib stuck in the barrel, you can clear it out with the brass rod and hammer.
