Of course it is. After having 5 presses in CO. With only a lonely 550, still not in use, here. I'm working on procuring a used 650, sans case feeder, for a good deal. That's if the seller is willing to meet 1/2 between here & there.
This could go in the latest purchase thread but it's not for me. My friend Charlie has loaned me his log splitter for many years over the past 3 decades. It's been a tremendous help to me. The splitter is probably 45 years old, works well but the engine is weak and barely runs. So, I popped for a new Honda GX200. Got a good price from Northern Tool and it came in 2 days. I'll install it today and ask him to come over and help me split logs. It's a surprise. :)

I really dislike returns.
-loss in labor and/or shipping cost
-loss in $$$ merchandise cost
-more plies of trash piles (for some retail eho cannot resell return due to policy and/or item condition)
Some say it is cost of doing business. No it is not, unless I can RETURN bunch of non resealable merchandise to your store.

We were discussing returns on another board and the dishonesty of people. The mfr of the product, who requires Amazon to return all product directly to them without resending, chimed in with...
...People returning a competitors (or older model) product in the box.
...boxes containing similar weight in used batteries, or other useless items.
...Returning an entirely empty box.
Apparently, Amazon sends a lot of returned items right back out without inspecting so buyers are receiving wrong or defective items, or even empty boxes.
Shit like that. People are assholes.

Yep. Got a "new" outdoor trashcan that was used. It wasn't damaged and I had to hose it out, so it wasn't too big of a deal. I know people that get the latest Apple gizmo to play with it for a couple of weeks and then take it back because it's "too expensive". "I'll get it on sale later."
Recently had that here, too. $120 toner cartridge purchased as new. It was obviously opened and used. At least it is easy to get items like that replaced.

I remember my mother purchased NEW nespresso, and the water tank has scotch(abrasive scrub) scratch mark from cleaning. Otherwise it was new. My guess was returned or store demo unit.
Contacted the seller and just settled with partial refund. If the item was for a gift, it would have been very bad.

I only comment so boldly because my brother got his in Jeffco using his competition record. When he turned in his form, they called him to ask about the competitions because no one had ever done that option before. He told them, "It's the first option on your website, so you'd better figure it out." They approved him like a week later.

Learned today that cert expiration no issue as long as don't let CHP expire before renewal. At least in Morgan county. No prints since permit still in good standing and cost was only $38.
Shoot. I need to check the expiration date on mine. Could be 2020. I?ll have to see what Adams county requires me to do.
Mine is in May of 2020. If you don't mind doing all the research, then just telling me, I'd appreciate it.
Mine is June 2020.
Looks like I have to make an appointment no more than 120 days before it expires.
Cost should be $63.
I will need to bring my current permit, drivers license, an unsigned application, and payment (cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card.)
Seems simple.

Not so bad IMO, ballasts were shot and would have had to be replaced with bulbs.
If you're hung up on the cost then you're not really understanding how much better they are. After switching entire house to LED, I'd pay twice the current cost to do it again.

Not hung up on cost, when you can find the same item for less. Believe I went with dedicated units in the shop. Yet after some research for prices, I saved close to $75 w/ free shipping. But I buy in bulk also. I "thought" of installing more dedicated 4' leds in the out buildings.
Until the neighbor said. I got these led bulbs for $5. ea. Mmm $20+ per fixture, or $10 to go from fluorescents to leds.

I'm hoping to be able to do the bypass without dropping the fixture. If I have to remove the fixture, I might as well replace it.

Right now I'm thinking of making straight cuts to make squares and more manageable pieces then either a dremel cut off wheel or jig saw with a metal blade and then grinder to clean up the edges. Lend me your ideas. I thought about a hole saw, but I don't want holes in the center. Hole saws without the center and a drill press would probably be nice right now.

If you can cut the squares accurately could clamp several square together and grind corners off to make circles. Lots of free hand work makes consistency harder to manage.
I was thinking aviation snips, but doing that many free-hand would suck.

Thanks everyone. I already tried tin snips, and can only cut straight. A porta-band is on my wish list for sure. I couldn't afford to buy new stuff, and it would violate the idea behind the project. I do have a scroll saw, but don't know if I can get a metal blade for it. Cutting squares and using the scroll saw is probably my best bet.

for the squares. As mentioned clamp a bunch together. BUT take those rough squares and place between 2 pcs of wood. Keeps the ends from bending and makes all cuts equal.
Maybe something along the lines of a gasket hole punch? I'm assuming it's fairly mild steel.
I see Kazoo beat me to the punch. [ROFL1] Get it???
Holes are 1.5" and 3.25" so I imagine the punches would be expensive and I'd never use them again. I like the idea of putting a few together and using the grinding wheel. It's an art project so consistency isn't the most important and would be a-okay.
You guys are useful, thank you.

I've got all three colors. This gauge of steel is too heavy for the way I want to use it, but it's what I bought.

There is a metal supplier in Commerce City/Brighton that also sells recycled punched rounds for fifty cents or something silly inexpensive. They've had several sizes in the past that are approximate to your needs. I will try to remember where if you're interested.
I'll try to avoid that this time around, but great to know for future projects, thanks.

Would electrical knockouts removed from electrical panels fit your needs?
How squishy are your diameter requirements?
(I don't have a source; I'm just asking.)
That's a good question. I think for the smaller pieces, those might work, but I think those are mostly galvanized and I don't have the capacity to wash the zinc off. That's good thinking though. This is really a one time project (so far) so I'm trying to use the stuff I bought. I saw a video where a guy puts a metal blade into a jig saw backwards, then clamps it into a vice upside down and uses that. I really like that idea. None of the methods I have available to me so far seem easy or fast, but that just means it will take as much prep work as the rest of the project so far.
Basically, when I told my wife I wanted to learn how to weld, she said, "Great, you can practice by making me some cute yard art." So I went to the Adult Used Toy Store and got some material with the intent of making a chicken.

Yes sir.
Angle grinder
Sawzall
Dremel
Bench Grinder
Jig Saw
Metal Miter Saw
Scroll Saw
Hack Saw
That's about my metal cutting abilities.
So based on your drawing, the scales of the fish are hidden on one side.
Cut squares out, stack several and clamp, draw circle and use angle grinder to shape the squares into "D"s.
An agressive wheel will make asy work of the plate stack.
Fish scales aren't round anyway... They're D shaped like Erni says to make.

Next time you're doing something like that, don't dismiss plastics. Even one of those really thin "cutting boards" could have made all those with a pair of scissors and secured with thin wire.
Plan is to have scales on both sides. It's going to be a yard fish and not a wall fish. This was more about welding stuff together than anything. I don't usually do "art," but have found myself creating things of late. As to the shape of scales, I thought about looking up the actual shape, but since this is just an artistic representation, it doesn't really matter either way. D shape would be easier, as the small circles are to just cover gaps. However, it also adds over 50% more scales for more colors as well. I think I originally planned to have dorsal and anal fins as well, but at a certain point, stuff becomes too much, and takes away from the original idea. Any time I tried to draw growing up, I'd have some idea that looked okay, but it would always end up filled in way too much until it looked like a pile of shit. One thing I appreciate about this medium and my general lack of skill/knowledge, is that the frame utilizes a very simple use of line that I really like. Adding the scales and other parts might even screw it up, but since it's a learning experience, I'm okay with that. Thanks for the suggestions for how to cut sheet metal efficiently so far.

Irving, skin your frame with sheet metal and then scallop/louver it for scales. Paint, oxidize or whatever for effect.

Like Buffalobo said, I think it'll be heavy when done. Might only work as a tornado vane.

We looked in to dropping another (under 200sq ft) unit by the shop. Between the building, power etc, it's money we don't have. Plus there's an existing structure with 1/2 bathroom sitting here.

so instead of dropping $3-5K, i can do this, hopefully, for under $800. Including making some security bars for windows and door. That number is OTD, not counting items i have for trade which, investment wise, is much lower.

Come on down around spring time and check it out. IF you were considering a relocation. With your woodworking skills, you'd do very well down here.
Want to make $$ in NAZ? Here's how
1: answer your phone
2: reply to text and or email inquiries
3: show up when you said you would
4: Start work (barring weather for outside jobs) the day you said.
Mostly it's just answering your phone and showing up. Ask that other guy who lives down the road from us.

Speaking of wood working...I took a store bought barn wood picture frame and added a neat little shelf to the bottom panes from a piece I found out in the barn. It's gonna be neato when it's done. The cut and fit stuff is done, just need to attach it now and doctor the fresh cuts a bit.

How ya be, G ?
Me? I'm OK. Still trying to find work. Refrigerator is going out (when it rains it pours, right?). Was discussing the past year with the better half yesterday and we're both in agreement that I needed to change my employment situation. I'm stressing in that I'm not providing for our household, but I'm better as a person after getting out of the rat race for a while. We both agree that I'm much more relaxed and happier. It seems that I'm more approachable, which I notice when I'm out at big box stores. People will just start up a conversation or ask a question, or I can start one with them, and it's a good experience. That's somewhat new to me. I'm an introvert and I know it, but at least I don't put off a vibe that I'm abrasive.
Or maybe they just think that I work in those places? I'll have to stop wearing orange to Home Depot. [Coffee]

... mostly galvanized and I don't have the capacity to wash the zinc off...
I missed this the other day -- easy fix. Soak the cutouts in a vinegar bath & it'll be clean enough to weld & paint after. Just make sure you do it outside
Or... I've muriatic acid that'll make quick work of it but will likely rust the metal too.

while it may be clean enough. One should not weld galvanized metals w/out very good ventilation and even better breather system. Not so much the zinc oxide, but lead oxide fumes.
Galvanized fumes are fine. I mean when was the last time you saw an old welder that was kind of goofy or had some sort of twitch?

How you doin'?
Well, I'm two months into a six month hiatus of not working. It sucks not having any income at all, but the stuff I'm getting done will most likely never have to be done again in my lifetime at least. It's never fun to put your 40 in every week and still have some major project unfinished that drags out for months it seems. Two more bedrooms and lots of little stuff are done now....I've got a pantry, walk in closet, and two bathrooms to do yet. Then the inside is finished other than maybe a good wood burning stove in the living/dining area.
I'll likely start seeking employment in May unless something pretty good comes up before then.

Depending how the material was galvanized.
Read up on the material you're working with, before doing so.
Galvanized steel can be welded, depending how you prep the material. If i must weld some of it, i'll grind then finish with a flapper disc to get down to bare metal.
I also have both fan behind me and an exhaust by welding area. Scenarios of welding can be slight headaches to something serious, depending how much exposure you have. 1 or 2 welds, not an issue.
I mentioned this since you're probably in the garage dong this. You don't want those fumes moving around the dwelling and or wife, daughter in area. The effects vary depending on ones sensitivity .
"Fumes from welding galvanized steel can contain zinc, iron and lead. Fume composition typically depends on the composition of materials used, as well as the heat applied by the particular welding
process."
Another factor that will help to make quality welds is the type of galvanizing process that was used to coat the steel. Different types of galvanizing methods will leave different thicknesses of zinc on the steel surface. Hot dipped galvanized steel and zinc thermal sprayed steel will typically have a thicker coating than zinc electroplated steel. Selecting a zinc electroplated steel can result in a better weld than thicker-coated hot dipped or zinc thermal sprayed steel. Zinc electroplated steel will also have a far more uniform coating which is important when welding automation is being considered.
I was up until 1:30am welding last night. I kept having to open the garage to air out it, but was keeping it closed so I could use the grinder without disturbing the neighbors. I'm going for the record to see how many times I can forget to move my ground clamp between pieces. So far my record is every fucking time.
For as many resources as I've read watched about welding, I have a hard time coming across something that explains how you're supposed to adjust what you're doing depending on the angle. In this case I'm trying to weld hinges on to the ramps and trailer. I can manipulate the ramps to weld on a comfortable position, but have to lay on the ground and weld upside to get the bottom side of the trailer hinges. They look like dog shit and I don't know what to create better over head welds. At least I burned the shit out of myself all night.

Best bet is to set up circumstance to avoid welding upside down. Plan it in to your project.
Cleat or ledge mounted before hinge to weld hinge to, maybe different shaped hinge plate/base.
If I weren't rushing to do it before bed, I would have just flipped the trailer over.

Pull it outside, flip over and grind those welds off.
Other issue is that I was welding a round hinge on the corner, so it's very deep.

Without context, looks like sheared bolts and a bent axle? Where's the bum that you plowed over? E.g. back story needed :p
Non-relevant "no duh" PSA: Don't use paint cans for jack stands for your trailer btw. My sister almost lost a finger doing that.... fine for a long time, then all spontaneously collapsed. I know, random, just seeing your "jacked up" trailer reminded me of it.
The axle isn't bent, the front most support that holds the back of the tongue is sagged in the middle. I do wonder about the bolts now tough. I scrolled back through pictures and it looks like it was bent like that yesterday before I towed a riding mower for over 100 miles, but not after towing the same mower + both dirt bikes over a different 100 miles a few months ago.
Ah yeah hard to tell without context. I see the rear bolt in place now. Initially looked like it was gone and held off angle only by the bolt near the tongue. Bolts should be fine if they are grade...sheer strength of say, 1/2" bolts is incredibly, incredibly high, in the order of a couple tons per bolt or more. Granted, I have no clue what size those are, but unless you hit something, I don't see that happening. Now, their tear out strength is much ,much less - like say, 200-300lbs to pull it out of the hole (just for reference) - note that I haven't refreshed my memory so both #'s are going to be up to 50% off.
Vibration loss on most bolts is the real concern.
Quick ETA: point being whatever the bolt is in usually fails first if you're at risk of sheer - e.g. wood splits or sheet metal opens up.
2nd ETA: And that's a large part in engineering with larger bolts - it's so their is substantially more surface area where they are attached to distribute the load - e.g. if you are sistering boards, the risk usually isn't the bolts sheering under any load; they start to fail when the wood compresses around them due to the load - bigger = substantially more strength in the socket.
