I always thought I wanted some super awesome handguards and stuff (Larue, Noveske, etc) but after researching a bunch, I found the Troy Alpha is a great rail, low cost and very lightweight. Don't have one yet, because I got gun ADD and stopped building my 2nd AR so I could buy a bigboy rifle instead.

I think I'll probably go with the Troy trx. I don't need a hundred attachment points anyway. Just room for a bipod. And I'm digging the lighter weight too.

Bogie asked me earlier about which mount I'd choose, a LaRue or a bobro. I only have personal experience with the LaRue mounts. They have been pretty solid for me. I don't move them from rifle to rifle that much, and when I do, I always confirm the zero.

i have heard good things about bobro's blac concept, though. I do like that one lever will re-cam the whole side of the rail. I have gotten some inconsistent result with using a two-cam system (ADM mounts, specifically). I always adjust the LaRue mounts the way mark LaRue taught me. Doing so has made the mounts solid for me.

In any mount, there are parts that will move, even if you don't want them to. The real test is to see if they return exactly where they were before the shot. If they are the same, then BFD about the flex.

i AM curious why you think I'd immediately choose the LaRue, though.

Haha, i had a prof throw a desk at a student once too. We got a little scared because SHE was barely 5ft tall, 80lbs wet and didn't seem to have a single muscle on her.

Granted, she was also a nationally ranked martial artist or something. She was crazy now that i think about it. She came in halfway through the semester looking like shit. We asked her what was up because she could barely focus on what she was saying, let alone write legibly. She said that her old roommate moved out and her coach needed a place to crash, so she let him move in. Little did she know, he started coaching her 24hrs a day and put her on a strict diet. She was upset because she hadn't had sugar in over a week. She then explained thats a momumental deal for her because she normally eats a huge bowl of double chocolatey chip ice cream, with extra hot fudge and hersheys syrup and chocolate sprinkles for breakfast.

Well no wonder she was also so schitzo, easy to startle and lurking in corners [LOL]

About 2 weeks later, the tortoise arrived and she brought it to lecture so it could walk around the lecture hall. There was a pile of lettuce in the corner and it could start rushing towards it at 1mpd (mile per day for you not scientific folks) and someone kept getting up, picking it up, and taking it to the lettuce, where it would munch down and turn around.

What's worse, the gun shop sold him .312 diameter bullets because he's totally clueless when it comes to reloading. [facepalm]

He showed up to my house last year with a bag of 9mm bullets, powder and primers and asked me to drop everything and help him reload. He thought it was as simple as churning out rounds.

The powder he was sold is Accurate #5. We went all the way up to .1gr under max and it STILL wouldn't cycle his pistol properly.

Oh this shop is a monopoly, its the only one in town.

They'll sell you anything you want at a 25% markup. You want a Glock 19? That'll be $775 + tax + transfer (yes, THEY charge a transfer fee on the guns they sell IN HOUSE!). You want a hi point? That's $490.

You want some small pistol primers? That'll be $39/1k + tax and hazmat fee (again, yes they charge you the additional hazmat fee based on a percentage of what you buy).

Thanks, I already looked there and found several so I'm hoping we can work something up unlike for his pistol. I'm sure there are many powders for lots of calibers, but there are popular powders for every caliber and wasn't sure if that is one or not. I don't trust that shop, they'll do anything to make a buck immediately.

oh no, this shop has been open for years and the other ones that pop up go out of business. This shop charges $100 FFL transfer fees. When I first called, heard that and said unintentionally out loud "wow, thats really steep" they said they have people that pay it all the time. Not sure who because there are at least 10 FFL's in town that charge $10-20 (the $10 guys are VERY flaky though, waiting weeks before they can meet with you).

I've gone in there quite a few times too fondle various guns just because, always buying something out of principle, but lately I honestly can't get myself to go in there anymore.

But now i've got to go to the shop with my friend, explain to them why he has to return it (hoping we can find decent load data with the powder he was sold, h335 for 30-06), then buy something else that is more along the lines of what he should have.

H335 has lots of loads for 30-06. Go to the hodgdon reloading site and they'll give you some basic recipes.

You can use the barrel of a pen and get pretty close. Just cut the barrel down to the length required, and bam. That'll at least get you close enough to be safe.

Tell him to buy the lee classic, and he should be able to do it himself.

before I bought a press, I used hoser's stuff. However, I asked him if I could, and when it fit with HIS schedule. If I just shows up unannounced, I'd expect to get something red and bad for my teeth in return (a brick to the face). Plus, I was raised that you don't just show up to someone's house. Give a call or send a carrier pigeon first.

I'd make him buy his own press or donate monetary compensation for your equipment. You loading for him only spells trouble down the road. ESPECIALLY if he has an issue and his trophy wife, decides to seek solace, in the arms of an attorney.

Regarding the over priced FFL / shop. you should get on back order list OR have some of us locate components up here for you. S & H & hazmat from CO will be cheaper and the correct parts from here than driving down the road.

Took the son and DIL to the range today and had a blast.

DIL ran all the big boy guns except the 1911 and the Sig P229 .357SIG. She rocked all the AR's, the .308 bolt gun and the Sig716P. Ran all the 9MM guns. I think if she hadn't also run the AK she might have taken on the 1911 and .357SIG too.

Ran my first reloads (.45ACP) and they all went BANG! Woohoo! I still have all my fingers too!
