I didn't have time to try and swim during those few days. I probably would have today since it went down by half, but that actually looked pretty intimidating so I wasn't going to try.

That's what I thought as well, and said as much to them. The guy was like, "The house is all the way over there, funny place for a Weber!" I was thinking to myself, 'weren't you just telling me about a dock that was right here?' That dock doesn't show up on the satellite images either, which I'm going to mention in the file. I'm torn on paying for the siding. On one hand, I like to pay for whatever I can reasonably get away with and really try not to nickle and dime people. On the other hand, I really don't like being lied to, and after he tried to convince me there used to be a dock there, I'm a little irritated. On the Gripping Hand, when writing damages for a Cat 5 Hurricane, a lot of stuff gets paid for that wouldn't otherwise and people are generally very happy about that.
While we're talking about it, there are some shady roofers down here.
Google maps has the year in the bottom of the corner. You can also download Google Earth and scroll back through the years and see what was on the property in those past photos. I also inspected the property two doors down and everything they have that was built within the last 3 years shows up in the photos. I did another house across the lake that had a roof installed 3 days before the storm hit, and you can see the old roof in that photo. This carrier ordered a lot of Eagle Views for me, and some of those pictures were so new that they were taken after the storm, but before I inspected, so I could actually see how large the trees on the roof were before they were pulled down before I got there. This one has an Eagle View, but it wasn't after the storm. Either way, they are lying. That's good info on that sat image though. Especially for when I'm looking at stuff where I can't even tell what the building looked like before the storm knocked it to the ground. That picture a few pages back where most of the Florida room was laying in the pool is a perfect example. I've got a lot of claims where I take a picture of some foundation, then walk across the yard, or even into the neighbors yard and take a picture of the debris pile to tell what was there (metal shed, vinyl shed, stick built shed, etc).
On another note, I'm bummed that there apparently any more work down here. I was hoping I could make enough to buy a property and VRBO it. Even though these properties probably have a bit of a touristy premium as far as price, they are CHEAP compared to Denver prices. I think the most I've seen something insured was only $400,00 something. Some of my favorite properties are on an acre lot that is heavily treed, detached garage with a dock right onto a fresh water lake and the dwelling is insured for only like $140k. Whole thing probably goes for $300k, but you could easily pay the mortgage only renting it out half the year.

The seawall has failed, because the next door neighbor has no seawall and the land has eroded to the point where my seawall has failed.

Not Hurricane Michael related, it had failed before then.

If I ever got to the point where I was willing to leave this job and work exclusively from home, I'd LOVE having at least two houses in different states. Preferably one in the south like that. Get a good AirBnB setup and contract with a reputable company to clean it - then hang out for a few months of the year there, *winter*
The comedian Hannibal Buress does that. He's got a bunch of apartments that he rents, then sub-leases them all, I think with an AirBnB or VRBO deal. So when one is occupied, he just goes and lives in another one. Since he's on the road a lot, that works out well for someone like him.

I do know that some states, and maybe even counties, you have a case against your neighbors' negligence with their land (like if they regrade their property, then all the sudden your place floods), but some places the state, county, city whatever doesn't care.

Slowly eliminating stuff we have no use for that ended up coming with us anyway.

Remember how I've been bitching about the lack of good beers here? Today I found that the Walmart liquor store has the widest variety I've found yet, and all of the stuff that I even consider looking at is not even in a cooler! Anyway, I ask the lady at the cigar shop if I can hang out in their lounge and work on my lap top and smoke a cigar with what I assume are a bunch of locals. She says of course (I just bought a case of cigars after all). I'm sitting there and I notice that people are drinking beer, and think about asking if I can grab a beer out of my car since I just left Wal-mart, but decide not to be that guy. A few minutes later the owner is like, "Who wants beers?" Thinking that everyone is locals and buddies I raise both my hands just to be funny. He busts out a growler of Funky Buddha and starts pouring everyone, even me a glass. This beer is stellar.

I find out that like two of the guys are locals, everyone else are guys just like me who are in town for work, but they've all been hanging out there every night for weeks and are fast friends. A few minutes later the owner announces that he just ordered pizza, cheese sticks, and Cinnabuns, then starts pouring everyone a few fingers of this scotch to try. It's not just scotch, it's Macallan 12 year Sherry Oak and is the best scotch I've ever had in my life.

I'm just so impressed at the treatment I got. I was just a guy that walked in off the street and bought some cigars, them some more, then a bunch more. I've been in place where the second you walk in, the guy behind the counter frowns and follows you around the entire time to make sure you're not stealing anything. I guess they had a big Drew Estate party on Wednesday. I really wanted to go, but didn't have time.

Us working stiffs that don’t have all day access to the forum are at a great disadvantage as far as all the good sh*t on the trading post.
By the time we get home from work and relax enough and look at the forum, the good stuff is usually gone or spoken for.
I have hurt a couple of feelers here in the trading post by not checking my e-mail before responding to a member that PM’ed me about an item, only to find that somebody e-mailed me an hour or two from the contact links in the forum saying that they would take the item.
I guess the Mods could make a rule about selling, but then I would be forced to sell an item to a certain member if they were first to respond to a for sale ad that I put up.

Specifically advised that siding damage is not storm related. Doesn't matter on one side because wind did tear some off so the whole elevation gets replaced. Did not write to replace the elevation that only had melting, but again it likely won't matter as the front and back were written to replace. Florida still has matching, so since siding companies discontinue product every few years, the contractor will say they can't get a current match and the siding on the entire structure will end up being replaced. Damage to docks aren't covered unless it is very clearly from wind, so they won't get that either, regardless of the fact that I to they are lying about the storm ruining the dock. It should be noted that the people I was upset with lying to me were just the shady property manager and accessory tenant. Pretty much so much stuff that you don't taste much Oyster. The ones in the half shell felt like every bite was full of and or crushed up shells though. At least I got my calcium requirement.

I grew up down in Yuma, and yes, we wore heavy coats when the temp dipped down to the 50s & Lower 60s. Something about living in that heat for years thins your blood or something. I didn’t actually see and feel snow until I was 15, during a late spring snow fall while traveling through Flagstaff.

Same route. I got some work in Olive Branch since it was on the way, so that kind of locked my route in. Honestly, I was pretty tired and ready to go home, so I didn't plan any detours. Also, I still have an OTC cow tag for next week that I'd like to at least attempt, so getting home fast was a priority. Not to mention I missed my kid and wife and pets and stuff.
A few hours from home and they reported that since the coop door was broken, one of the chickens never made it into the coop last night. Everyone was upset about it (sister hen to the one that died right after I left). This morning I saw her walking across the front yard. No idea where she hid last night, but she pulled through the night just fine. Now maybe the wife will understand that 20 degrees at night ain't no thing for these chickens and she'll stop trying to insulate the coop.

It's crazy when I get on some schedule and I start crashing at like 10 pm and am able to actually be asleep by 11pm. I know a lot of people on here are morning people, but I've never been that way. So for me to be able to fall asleep before midnight and wake up with no alarm and feeling refreshed by 6:30 am feels like a Christmas miracle to me.

Cast is off and getting strength back in the right ankle. Orthopedic Dr. gave me a full return to work after T - day. Still got to get a release from PT&OT and my primary care Dr. Then I can return to working, the speech thing is a non-factor, none of the crew listened to me anyway.....

It was/is frustrating as hell, esspecially when a sales person or receptionist does the eye roll when I try to talk and make them understand what I am wanting or needing.

OK get a pen & paper ready, since i've had a few inquiries how i did them
Chili chocolate chip cookies.
Cheaters way, or a way to see if you like them before doing them from scratch.
Take a pre-made (B.C. Duncan Hines etc) package of C.C cookie mix some cayenne pepper and hersheys cocoa powder. I prefer the Dark Chocolate hersheys
Dump the dry mix in bowl, add some cayenne pepper (to taste) then a bit more to it. Then 1/4 tsp of cocoa mix (again as a starter) taste the powdered mix to see if it's where you want it heat and chocolate wise. Then add wet ingredients, follow directions till done.
If you like a different slant on the chocolate chip cookie i suggest you make them larger than normal . Or you'll end up eating 3 doz cookies before bed time.

2 1:7 16" PSA nitride specials with the Vortex strike fire 2 MOA red/green RDS. Went to a 25 yd indoor range in preskitt ;) just to get on paper. 1.5 - 2" low @ 25 gets me on @ 200 and still maintain COM between 25 - 200 yds.
Spent almost 2 hours there, a good part b.s'ing with the r.o. and some old guy with his S&W 12 ga. pump action he purchased new in the mid 70's.
Supposedly the outdoor range ironed out the issues they had with the town and is scheduled to reopen friday. That's a 100 yd range, the r.o. where i shot today told me where i can shoot out to 1500 north towards Ash Fork.

Supposedly there's an unofficial pumpkin shoot saturday, put on by some machine gun shooters. Got that info from one of the tonsorial parlors, local news and weather spots.
AND a neighbor took me to where they shoot from the top of a plateau down in to the valley with another shear walled butte as the backstop. Maybe 2K yards with their heavy guns. schwingggggg [Beer]
