If ammo stays clean and dry how long can it be stored, and still be usable? Indefinitely?

Well, according to some government talking head, ( his name slips my mind ) during the last ammo panic, said that the shelf life of ammo was no more than 10 years. And thought that the hoarding of ammo was rediculas because after a few years it would go bad.........

Decent app if I was looking. Although I don't think they highlight some of the unique card perks enough (like club passes and priority boarding on UA cards).

I'm pretty happy now with my UA Mileage Plus. For the annual fee, I get two free club passes, group 2 boarding, and my travel miles with UA also count towards my preferred hotel chain Hilton. I also buy my annual seat upgrade with the card if I don't make status (haven't the last two years) so I get to double dip that a bit too. The card is paid in full every month to avoid any interest.

I should do something with my Amex though. I still hang onto the Gold Amex I've had for 15 years and lately the annual fee barely gets covered by the rewards with the smaller spend on that card. I should probably move some monthly bills back to it since I can meet my annual UA spend bonus pretty easy otherwise. I just can't justify the $475 annual fee for the Amex Platinum as the other perks on it don't make sense for me.

I'm at a point now that I don't want more cards than I already have. I have a Bank credit line card, a Credit Union card, a (recent) store zero APR card, the UA card and the Amex. I only carry a balance on one zero APR promo card and one zero APR store card that will both be paid down long before the promo ends. The store card is paid off in the next 90 days. I actually paid part of my 2014 tax bill on the zero APR CU card and pay it off over time. I could pay them all off at any time from savings but prefer the liquidity somewhere besides the CC limits.

The cards carrying a balance probably affect my credit score a little, but certainly not worse than all the student loan debt I am co-maker for. While the number is not as great as I would like it to be, it's good enough to get me the best rates if the need arises.

I think this is more geared toward people who are looking for sign up bonuses. For example, we have a trip we want to plan, and I'm trying to buy a car soon. If I can sweet talk the dealer into letting me purchase the car on a card, maybe I could get the whole family trip for free on a new card, then cancel it before the annual fee. I'd pay an extra $500+ for a vehicle if it got me a serious discount on a several thousand dollar trip.

Listen bub, I've got the cash for the car. Many credit cards offer so many points if you spend $3,000 in the first three months. I plan to use that calculator to see what kind of benefits I can get if I put $7,000 - $10,000 onto the card. For example, maybe there is an initial bonus period where you get double points for spending or something. It's worth a look at the least.

I don't think you did. Must have told my wife when you were talking to her on my phone.

Here is my latest idea. Wifi enabled electronic door lock on the front door that allows me to change the keycode remotely. "What's your home address? Okay, that's the key code to get you into the cabin. Enjoy the weekend."

Of course with a back up manual key some where.

As long as one has the means to pay off early great. IIRC Chase is offering a Open a checking account of $5K or more, get $500 bonus from them. You have to keep X in per year. So i'm going to transfer a portion of different accounts to chase. Let it sit the year. Take the 10 % buy 2 more tax stamps.

1,000+ yards for $24 is a pretty good deal, considering I've been paying $3.99 for 150 yards. BUT, if you click the link, scroll to the bottom review and look at the middle picture, you can see that this roll of thread is about the size of a carton of milk. If I bought that, everything I sewed for the rest of my life would have to be orange.

There is more appropriately sized spools, just need to find the right seller.

All the sign up bonus have a spend requirement. as long as you do the spend, and there's no first year fee, if the shoe fits...

Just don't get sucked into the available credit trap. I think you've discussed this before - that you have unused credit - and it's best to keep in that way.

Wish I had taken my own advice 30 years ago.

Irving
05-02-2016, 01:02
I'm currently sitting on about $60,000 of available credit with almost 99% of that being available. Should be able to avoid that trap. I don't want more debt, as even a small amount can quickly eliminate any benefit from rewards.

I'm interested in what kind of rewards are available with a $450 annual fee. My Amex Blue Cash card has a $75 annual fee that pisses me off. I can't imagine $450.

1 emergency and that $60K becomes $120 of debt.

Irving

Especially since 33% of the 60 is available in credit cards, such would be a terrible way to try and manage an expensive emergency.

Your spindles wouldn't hold it. We could fab up a coil wrap machine to transfer to standard sized spools. OR i could turn down some nylon spool holders to run off of.

There's a trick for that. You set a coffee mug (or otherwise-appropriate-sized container) at the back of your machine, near where the spindle sits, and place the large spool in there. Then thread your machine as per normal.

FYI, Joanne's has sales on their thread about four times per year, buy one get one free. FWIW, I find Coats to be the best brand they carry. Hancocks going-out-of-business sale is the place to scoop up right now; they have 40-yard spools for under 3 dollars. Or they did a couple of weeks ago.

(Whoops, I meant 400-yard. Thanks for catching that, Irving!)

My philosophy on credit card rewards is that it would be safer, quicker, and less of a hassle just to pick up some side work or sell some old stuff than to try to manage the points and deal with those scammy credit card lowlifes when trying to cancel or make changes. It just seems like a really silly, tedious, and risky way to try to get ahead in life. ...In fact, I can't think of a single successful or wealthy person who got there with credit card rewards points.

Of course not. No one ever got rich by using coupons, but that doesn't mean it's not always worth the trouble.

HoneyBadger
05-02-2016, 21:34
Personal finance rule #1: If you want to be rich, start doing rich people stuff. If you want to stay poor, keep doing poor people stuff.

Rule #2: Don't buy crap you don't need with money you don't have.

I think if you're following those two rules, you'll be fine. Clipping and using coupons is good if it's worth your time and effort. I'm not sure that the advantages of credit card reward programs are worth the time and trouble for most people. Of course, the credit card companies want you to believe that they ARE worth your time, because that's their sales pitch.

I used my Amex almost exclusively for business travel and personal expenses for years. Hell, I put $24K of dental work on it one year. Enough to pay with points for a pretty swanky 7 day cruise and a lot of the extras.

I get a nice mileage bump with the UA card and value the air miles added to my (business) paid for miles a little more now. The two free UA club passes are valued (more now) than the annual fee and I usually only need one or two a year for extended layovers. Having kids and a Grandkid out of state requires some personal air travel a few times a year and it's nice to have it covered.

That makes sense. My FIL gets tons of miles and Marriott points from his job that he gets to keep for personal use. Credit card rewards are definitely worthwhile in some cases... like when someone else is paying the bill. [Neene3]

Awesome. I almost bought one of these a couple years ago. Was going to use it as a campground/range cart.

If I hadn't had so many questions about street legal/ title issues with the one we were looking at, we probably would have done it.

It was less than half that one, so probably more issues.

Nice lesbian limo you bought today.

I think it might be a flood vehicle from another state. Oh well.
The mileage rating is 17/25 with an estimated 20 combined. I'm getting an average of 17ish with what I'm driving now. I'm looking at saving $45-$100 a month in gas. I don't know how my agent did it, but she found me full coverage at $300,000 liability limits with Uninsured Motorist, rental, cell phone and electronics, business materials, and some other coverage for only $100ish a month. I don't even need full coverage but that's such a good deal I think I'll keep it for a bit.

The Sto 'n Go seating is badass. All the seats fold flat into the floor. When the middle seats are up, there is a huge cavity in the floor for storage. I can keep pretty much ALL of my stuff under the floor and it will look like an empty vehicle now. Plus, I won't have to move did around just to give the kids a ride home from school. I think I might be a minivan convert now.

Those seats when stowed can hold close to 1500 rds of 223 in 20 rd boxes. It's not a mini van. Consider it a Dakota with a sleeper cab.

Any of you hoes know anything about kipor generators?

I have a Kipor generator. Been using it for my camper for the last 5 or so years. Their bulky and heavy, but run great - start up is never a problem using the pull cord (the battery to electric start it has been dead since I bought the generator new & I'm too cheap to replace it). Not quite as quiet as the new Hondas or Yamahas, but a lot quieter than my Coleman and runs a good clean sine wave pattern of stable power which is essential for the damned sensitive electronics in my camper. I've actually powered & charged 3 campers with my single Kipor.

Got it from the camper dealer when I bought my camper. Yeah, they're Chinese made, but what isn't these days. Apparently, they don't meet CA emissions requirements though, but it's got less nasty emissions exhaust than my Coleman.

That ammo can is not fitting under a stowed seat. We put them out as 20rd boxes. At least you're on the road in your own vehicle. The 2012 we had averaged 23-26 hwy

I see what you're saying now. I didn't realize anything would fit under the stowed seat. Tomorrow will be my first day driving it at work. No one will ever say anything I'm sure. All of the adjusters from one company drive the same van, only in white, and with a commercial ladder rack on the roof. I don't know why they even have the roof rack because none of them carry anything larger than the folding ladders.
