Nut gun is Axis bolt rifle? What caliber? Barrel issue with threading, needs sleeve or something? Is this common with Axis rifles?

.308. I looked into it and it's known that it's too thin. Said they would thread a different pattern and adapters are easy to come by, but it was going to be almost twice as much. Common with Axis, even in .223 I guess.

Chick, I would go straight to loading what you shoot most. Sounds like you already have a background in tooling or machining, so it shouldn't be an issue for you.

I'll trade you an RCBS single press for those gas cans. I have a set of neck sizing dies in .223 if you're interested. I don't research things much, but somehow came to the conclusion that I didn't want them. If you come to a different conclusion, you can have them. Do you have time to meet up tomorrow?

If she's loading for the AR she needs full length sizing dies, not a neck one. BUT if she does do the deal i have a set of FL 223 dies, somewhere.
Or did you get them with the 550 ?

The rcbs for gas cans is a nice offer and one worth while. great way to get started reloading.

09-09-2019, 08:44
I do after about 4-5 reloads if the are not split and hit the no go gauge, Hence they are more forgiving.

Interesting, i haven't had that issue (yet) and that's on maybe 6ish reloads. But i do inspect the brass and stopped picking up range brass a few years back.

And it turns out we're going to cv the front shaft as well, but now another custom yoke needs made for the t case again.

We debated it for a short bit, but there is a higher likelihood of smoother front shaft operation if we do so.

But you have to take a small sample from that lump. Pick it with a bristle type toothpick, then insert in a container. It's the first step in accepting, one day you'll be shitting in to something similar. Only by then you'll be wearing them, not a 1x sample.

Hit what you were aiming for?

Yes, but it took me a while to figure out where to hold, even though "where to hold" was exactly where the scope told me to hold. So not as many hits as I would like, but was for sure satisfying.

Or you are real good pistolero

There is no question that I'm better with a pistol than a rifle. That said, I always figured people were trying to sound macho about hitting stuff at 100 yards with a pistol, but it turns out it's not all that difficult. There was little to no hold over. I found that surprising.

May want to try ?normal? bullets. The Powerbelts are slightly undersized. Not that this should cause a big enough difference to make it less accurate than your pistol, but may get better.

Irving
09-11-2019, 09:00
It seems to be accurate enough when I do my part. Using open sights on a target at 100 yards isn't really a skill I've learned properly. When the sights seem to block out the entire target, repeatability becomes an issue.

I only ended up with the power belts because everything else was gone and the season starts on Saturday. I only bought a 20 pack and am down to only six projectiles so I'll probably be going back to get the large package. Anyway, loading a bunch yesterday I didn't notice they went down the dirty barrel any easier, so I'm not sure about them being undersized. I shot the aerotip first, then a powerbelt and put them both on the steel with the first two shots so the accuracy is probably there.

I'm complaining a little more than I should because after those shots I moved back to 150ish yards and couldn't hit the steel, so I set up a board with a target sheet and couldn't even get anywhere on that at all. So when I moved back in to 100 yards my shoulder was getting sore (making me anticipate) as my confidence was shot. Still managed to put a few more on the steel and paper at 100, so I'm likely okay.

What I'm dealing with now is for some reason I set my rear sight slightly left last year, and all my shots are a few inches left at 100. I bent a small screw driver trying to loosen the damn sight and don't know what to do about it.

whitewalrus

Read the package insert that came with the power belts, most of their ?jacketed? ones are slightly undersized.

But I am sure as you mentioned it?s just other factors.

Irving

Needless to say the flag is now under my care.

I also took specific note to which bin it was discarded as the addy was preprinted on it by the city when it was issued.

I printed a bit of literature about the significance of & proper way to retire the American flag, did a property records search, addressed an envelope, included a picture of how I found the flag with the bin addy, signed it with 'best regards / my name' & now It's ready for the outgoing mail.

They will probably just get triggered.

Comedian did a skit about 'having a nice day' & that he had a certain number in a row & it was only fair to pass along his nice day run to another who must have had an equally numbered amount of bad days. It was his turn for that, only fair. Etc.

I should have some beretta choke tubes if you ever want to borrow them. Modified is probably acceptable for most things flying through the air. I?m more of an improved cylinder fan myself if there is only one barrel involved. I used to run IC in the top barrel and M in the bottom of my over/under.

Only shooting a max of 30 yards. Most shots in skeet would be closer. So you are giving yourself less room for error with the crossing targets.

One of the news channels is doing a daily report of the number of children killed by firearms in the current week.
My wife's first question was, why aren't they reporting the number killed in traffic accidents this week?
Yep, good point.
I was getting ready for a garage sale, and was recalling that I used to go to the flea market on Federal north of I-70 on the week-ends when I got out of the service in the early 70's.
I would sell the lamps I made in my spare time while back in college.
Firearms were on display, for sale, and traded just like any other item being sold.
My little view of the world has changed substantially since then.

People want rock bottom prices and I think they are just looking for a deal too good to pass up. Other than that, it does get rid of your stuff. When you are done, just donate it as you wont make much with a garage sale.

Erni
09-12-2019, 17:26
No. Yard sales are where people come, make you unreasonable offers, you haggle, and they clean up your junk for you while leaving you money for stuff you would likely throw out next year anyway. Made enough to take family to a nice dinner.

As long as there is a neighborhood Garage/yard sale happening, you get free advertising. And put everything in the driveway with free signs taped to everything, it is no hassle at all. You don’t even have to open your door or monitor the items.
This is how I got rid of a bunch of crap without making a trip to the dump.

There isn't a garage sale down here where you can't find at least 1 or 2 guns on tables.

Last sale, i looked at an old model 59 smith. Ask the guy, how much?

Oh that's worth $700 as it's illegal now to make guns that take 15 round magazines [ROFL3].

ARE YOU HIGH? Who told you that line of crap? Needless to say he turned down my offer of $250.

Sad thing is . He was as serious as a heart attack, guns were no longer being made that took double stack mags.
They only make guns that take 7 rounds or less [facepalm]

I'd rather just donate it to ARC or Goodwill.

We tell people. if you don't make us an offer and buy something. It's going to the thrift store donation bin in the morning.

Cleaning Cotton Flags

Natural fiber flags such as cotton and wool should be handled with greater care. We suggest spot cleaning or dry-cleaning. Please contact your local dry cleaners for their recommendation. A majority of dry-cleaners will dry-clean a U.S. flag at no charge.

Don't know if Irving will remember but I had wanted his old vacuum breaker housing so I could use it in something Taj Mahal flavored.

It had a great patina.

Bird dollhouse for a friend. Not my best work by far but she liked it. I liked the cat in the window. The walls come out & I made bits of furniture out of copper wire & wood. The weather vane was an afterthought too. You wouldn't know it but I spent a stupid amount of time on this, I even made the individual flowers from jewelry findings.

I thought about skinning a few boxes in plates. But they'd likely be more decorative than used by birds.

I went bowling for the first time in years a couple of months ago. Started out a little sketchy with a 149 then game two was a little better with a 180 something and by the third game I was figuring it out and went somewhere around a 225. I?m sure if I went today I?d be rusty again. I was much more consistent when I bowled league all of the time.

I kinda miss doing the league stuff, probably been six or seven years since. I was pretty solid 170/195 window as a straight line bowler....never had an interest in doing all that radical spin stuff.

I've been bear hunting here for years and have yet to ever even see one. Got a picture of a nice paw print today though.

Was it recoverable? I'm not above taking a roadkill deer/elk if there's good meat on it. I hit 2 deer (2 different times) and had someone stop to take them with a cop right there and they were cool with it. You're supposed to report it to DOW and all that government bullshit, but both cops were just like, "Oh yeah man. If you want it, take it".

Edit: sounds like you might have been bear hunting. Come get the one that completely destroyed my garbage box the other night and made a giant mess. First time they ever got into the thing. He must have found a weak spot and exploited the shit out of it. Gotta rebuild the entire lid.

I have a cow tag as well. Not recoverable, and I'm sure very frowned upon without a bull license. Game warden showed up the same day.
