The same week I did that, I watched another guy do the exact same thing. I figured out why we both did that, but it's difficult to explain over text.
It's all what the eye seem, not what's actually out there. Depth perception.
The spouse cannot back a 12' or 20 trailer in a decent sized space, even if she had magic powers to do so.. BUT...............She can swing a riding mower pull behind 4' trailer in to any space backing up, without looking.

In my experience little, empty & low trailers are squirrelly.
Yeah but does it matter as much since they don't really pull the tow vehicle anywhere? Or are you referring to them rapidly doing things you don't want when trying to back in? The latter has certainly been my experience.
ChickNorris
05-29-2019, 21:39
Squirrelly in reverse, yes.
Yeah, I'd like to try towing something a bit bigger. I have a small trailer with a short wheel base tow vehicle.
ChickNorris
05-29-2019, 21:47
For years no one under my employ could back the trailer into the shop without several attempts. Few times I was even called to see if I could. To be fair there was only about 4" clearance on either side through the door... but still, years?!
Looks like I'm heading out to Lamar soon. Never been there before. Maybe I'll see a tornado.
I?ve spent a fair amount of time in Lamar over the last fifteen years. Can?t say I?m a big fan. I was there in April and it seems a lot of the restaurants I used to enjoy are closed now.
Did get my kid an Xbox there one Christmas. Whichever one it was was the big ticket item that year that you just couldn?t find and the Walmart there had a few in stock.
There used to be some sort of factory there (building buses or motor homes I think) and when that shut down the town sort of started dying.
ChickNorris
05-29-2019, 22:05
Irving, are you saying you haven't seen a tornado in person or are you just hoping for freshies?
I've never seen a tornado in person. :(
I?ve seen three. Two were far enough away they were kind of cool but one was spooky close and I was picking out a safe place to ride it out. Fortunately that one lifted up and went away so I didn?t have to shelter in place.

Why?
Why?
Some folks confuse equipment with training
Some folks think because they're men, vets, good ol' boys, etc., that they shouldn't be getting beaten by a woman
Some folks aren't as self-sure as they think
Some folks don't like when the word of the day is: loser, and they are its definition.

Yeah, this. We did a 1 day class and then 1 full day pistol comp course. 25 shooters 4 of them novice women, in different stages, my spouse and friends spouse among them.
Top ten had 4 women in the 4,5,8 & 10th spot. When you consider the women had done nothing more than casual plinking before this. There were a few men who went home with Prep H as consolation prizes. Some of them literally vocal about the casual match.

And i'm sure you deserve it. However there will be some shooters. Thankfully low in number, who one day throw your game due to some low voiced comment or snide remark towards you.
Hell i've as i'm sure others have, towards another male shooter. Usually a novice who is on their game and the hot shot isn't. Throwing around, oh he's just lucky is all. Yeah lucky across the match while you're stomping your feet , pouting like a 5 yr old.

Tomorrow I'll r+r the front tank of the van and get it drained out, remove the sender and try to figure out how to duplicate/modify a replacement somehow. If I can't get that tank cleaned out and functional before the trip, at least it will be empty for when I have time to do so. I'll replace all the flexible lines and install clear line filters ahead of the selector valve instead of after. At least I know that the selector switch and the valve are both functioning properly.
I'm currently working with the sender supplier for the rear tank who evidently changed their product to not match the OE unit any longer, yet their product image still matches the OE sender.

Hey Chris, Stu.
You got some time for you and mama this weekend?
Most people aren't out to scam stuff, and those that are it's a lot easier to just tell them "no." It's more often contractors, but even then, most people are cool.
I definitely have to remember who I am dealing with though. After the wind/snow storm, I had a bunch of "fallen tree branch" claims and more than one person asked me if they should have turned in a claim. I struggle with that because I try to do all my own work, so there aren't very many things I'd actually turn a claim in for. Every once in a while I'll get a claim that looks bad, like a long term water loss where everything gets covered in mold (which usually isn't covered by the way), and it will be some one who is completely helpless as far as doing anything on their own is concerned, and on top of that doesn't even have enough for their deductible, let alone hiring out a job. I have to be very careful of my tone in those situations because it doesn't look good for me to come across like something is no big deal, when they are clearly devastated and think that their life is over.
I'm embarrassed to admit that when I say that I'm stressed, it's not over anything important or complicated, just shying away from volume.
Hi Fentonite.

How do you know you're going to be busy in a medical setting? I suppose there are appointments on the schedule already.
Since I’m in the ER, there’s no appointments. Flu season is always a significant increase, and the first workday after a 3-day holiday always sucks. Certain days like Easter or Christmas get an influx of elderly, usually from sea-level and don’t do well visiting Denver. Believe it or not, full moons are typically more erratic. Otherwise, random hit and miss.

I made a boneheaded mistake on the fourth stage & timed out. When the match was over I reshot the stage to prove to myself what I had done & I finished the stage with rds left in my only mag. Yep, i f*ed up proper on the clock when I shot the 200.
Sometimes you just have to fail on full to learn to never make same mistake again. Hope that's true in this case.
That's way better than getting DQ'd because you broke the 180 rule.
Or because the RO is a moron and DQ'd you for the same thing he just did during his turn.

Failure is good as long as you learn from it. Preferably from the failure of others.
Keep at it.
Well wierd day. SAT for the kid so drove him down and used the time to finish drawing up what my sprinklers look like in the back yard. There is 19 rotary sprinklers for a 60x30 ovalish yard. Two are in the center, the rest are around the periphery. With a min throw distance of 15ft, thats a shit ton of overlap. Trying to figure out how to make them work without flooding the lower part. Must have been paid by the sprinkler....
Still recovering from nasty knock me on my ass cold. Sucks, I aint got time for this.
Since I could not do much else I geeked out on the RasPi, got the wifi working thanks to the help of more seasoned folks. Like black magic to install drivers and such. But its working, so onwards to add a camera and then motor control.

Erni, if you'd like me to look at your coverage & zones, I'd be happy to give you my 2 cents.
Do the rotary sprinklers throw a further distance than the plain old pop up mini sprayers? When we did our yard we were told to plan for 12' distances because water pressure was only gonna drop as the neighborhood built up

Yeah this was definitely my bad. I knew/know better. Even more frustrating that it didn't occur to me during/after the first 5 shots or I could have salvaged the string no problem.
It doesnt really matter but I was in the top 20 after the first 3 stages. Would have done even better if I hadn't humped it on the one stage that should have been my best on any other day.
I'm really more disappointed in myself than the final score though. Next time.

Yep. At least I think so.
CN won't hurt to get a second set of eyes. Let me see how I can post it.
Wyome, the pop up rotaries are rated at 25ft radius, and "can" be tuned down to 15ft alegedly. This is at rated flow and pressure but its close to what I get. Most of the sprinklers on the perimeter are 6 to 7 feet apart, so it could have been done with regular sprayers and not rotaries.
I had Boulder conservation come out and measure my sprinklers. The dude basically said the sprinklers overwhelmed his measuring cups and he could not tell me what to set them for.
It puts out water at a rate that the lawn has problems absorbing, but it needs more/longer duration. I have it set to run 1/3 the water and then run again twice. Helps but still not ideal. Going to buy smaller nozzles next and throttle the flow, hope that gets me there.

Well today it just became a priority, we are t-minus 12 days from our annual road trip to California, and I just realized one of my rear driver side leafs is completely snapped. Fortunately Old Man Emu replacements are similar priced or cheaper than the zero lift options I was looking at, threw in some ride height adjustable Bilsteins up front, and should have a nice mild boost in height, similar to what I think the Xterra Pro4x should have looked like from the factory.

Admittedly I'm partial to my rifle & very comfortable with it's use. That was a big part of the fun because I could focus solely on the task.

Stop futzing with the gun. Seriously stop. I am a huge gun ho and tinker and change for fun, but shoot some matches first with the gun. If you find that the sights hold you back you can get the best super duper tactical roll 66 with a +20 everytime you use them sights.
But honestly if I had stopped gear jumping and just got a good ar and a glock and concentrated on my skills I would be miles ahead now.
Pistol shooting is like 95% skill and only 5% gear. You will reach a certain point where you could place well with zero sights. Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration.

The sights are off, terribly.

& I don't chase gear.
If the sights aren't adjustable, there is a low chance they are off. But giving you the full benefit of the doubt, have you had a second (or third) shooter confirm the sights are off?

Yes
Okay, I believe you then.
As you can imagine, we've had a few people over the years (usually new shooters) going down the parts rabbit hole and saying how their sights were off and asking what parts to buy. Usually they just hadn't quite learned to reliably get on target with a handgun yet. Hope you aren't offended.

If it matters... to really be the sleeper I bought her to be she needs a new bushing as well. As I understand it mounting the front site is ancillary to this which is why I have custom quotes for the work.
Just havent sent it off to be done yet.

Oddly enough that's one of the main reasons for the forum ;)
The PWT and WAT are just space filler.
We've never met, but you seem dedicated to the sport and open to ideas / suggestions. Nice to see you didn't jump in with a Tier 1 mentality, but willing to see what works for you. IMO, based on you wanting to excel, i wouldn't be surprised if you get a few offers down the road for sponsors.

I know the back story to the chainsaw, even read the thread where SideShowBob calls him out.
Not sure I've heard the dish on the group buy.

It's like fight club and the image that shall remain unnamed.
We aren't allowed to talk about it.

First membership to a range, my first rifle build, when I first joined here...

I appreciate that you come to a gun board and actually talk about gun stuff instead of getting involved in all the political bullshit. Thanks.
Working at home is always difficult for me due to distractions. Just now it was this.
