Just visited a colleague's friend's business. They do laser engraving. She has 4 laser engravers. Two fiber fed CO2 lasers (30W and 40W). She just got 2 UV lasers. I don't know more specifics on them, but they can engrave IN COLOR!! [Shock]
Surprisingly, they all operated VERY similarly to my 3D printer. In fact, it makes me question how difficult it would be to incorporate a laser head instead of an extruder on my printer so I can laser engrave schtuff...

That is why we keep the engineers in a separate facility. They kept taking stuff apart and trying to combine equipment. Equipment that didn't need modified or improved.

Hey now, I represent that!! [Slap]
For the record, I did just send out a 45 page paper on the proposed modifications to the instrument I'm working on, including FEA results. What happened yesterday? The Dept Chair replied with a situation that is realistic and seriously threw me on how to respond. However, at the end of the day, my design changes prevailed and can accommodate the situation he presented making his point moot. It did however bring up about 5 other things that we can implement to prevent the situation he proposed. Sadly, I have a feeling if anyone gets to the bottom of my 3page long email response and read that, they will ask me to start working on those new changes... [facepalm]

hey that would be fun! Think about it, you'd never be alone!! Seriously, ghosts make the best roomies! Best of all, you wouldn't have to feed them, or argue over which channel to watch (cause they couldn't change it), or adjust the thermostat to please them. Two posts at 4min apart is hardly "whoring". True post hos get 2-3 posts per minute as the site only imposes a 30sec in between posts limitation. So if you're fast enough, you could post 3 times in 1min. In other words, you had a potential to get at least 8 posts, possibly 10 or 12 in those 4min between your posts.
My thumbs cant type fast enough on my little keyboard on my cool smart phone and I cant spell to save my life so it takes me a lot longer.

No worries. I miss my safe. Sold it when we sold our home because the buyers didn't want it (but I hope they enjoyed the four 3/8" threaded rods sticking up from the closet floor that mounted the safe to the concrete slab). I didn't have a reciprocating saw and sure as heck wasn't going to buy one just to remove those things. They didn't know about them and they didn't want to see the house again before closing when it was completely empty.
Sadly, we won't be able to get another real safe until we buy another home. Since my job is grant funded, I don't know what will become of it after we finish building the instrument and deliver it south. I could be relocated to another university somewhere to start building another or I could stay on here.

Well, none of my guns are any more dangerous to HB Jr than a hammer sitting on a shelf, but as he gets older and stronger, we'll have to come up with a good solution to keep his paws out of trouble
Growing up, I very often had dreams of living in a big awesome house, and every time, without fail, the house would be haunted. It'd be haunted, or I'd find a secret sey of rooms but the devil lived there, or I'd have the coolest room in the house, but something evil that absolutely hated me also occupied that same room. Every time I dreamt about a house, it always had something wrong with it.

Hypothetically speaking, HB Jr joins a gang at 5yo. His gang friends come over and HB Jr points out your pistol sitting on a shelf. HB Jr's friend, Timmy, says oh cool check me out and picks it up, accidentally shooting poor (but thugged up) Adam and killing him. When the cops show up, Timmy, who pulled the trigger isn't responsible, you are, because you left it out where a gang member could access it.
Now, HB Jr's gang friends come over and find a hammer. Timmy picks up the hammer and starts swinging it around, and accidentally hits Adam in the head, killing him. Adam's devastated parents don't come after you for leaving a hammer around, they go for Timmy's parents who should have taught him not to play with tools.
While a little ridiculous, its the reality we live in. I would be perfectly happy with a nightstand and an electromagnetic hidden drawer. Flip the switch, magnet releases, pistol pops out and ready to go. But if I can flip a switch, so can a toddler.
Sorry, bear with my ridicoulous scenarios, I am mentally fried from lack of sleep and the ridiculous problem I'm working on at work, for which common sense doesn't apply to this type of problem.
eta: Timmy and Adam are both fictional characters. Their fictional parents were not devastated at their loss as they are fictional and do not actually have emotions. Furthermore, HB Jr is not a thug, nor was I implying he would grow up to be one. Lastly, no bunnies were harmed in this hypothetical scenario. Liberal tears on the other hand, were probably shed as the story involves guns.

Fair enough. I've started seeing the lunacy of the gun argument a lot, especially with kitchen knives. Knives are just as deadly if not more ( with a super sharp knife, its easier to cut oneself with light pressure than a 6-12lb trigger pull) and yet we teach kids to not use them unless we're around. That would be my mentality, train baby to never touch firearms but it just won't fly in my house.

Tell me about it. I got half way up the street and remembered I hadn't tightened the bolts on the front wheel after changing the tube. I said, "oh well, hand tight will do," and proceeded to ride to the skate park. That picture was actually taken after I bent the sprocket. I actually bent it back enough that you can use that gear without the chain falling off. Sister-in-law won't be likely to use that gear anyway though. Anyway, I rode in fast to surprise the kids (they didn't know I was coming) and when I came out of a the first quarter pipe, I freaked out and landed the middle of the bike right on the coping. Whoops.

Oh yeah. We like their dogs, brats and bacon. Something about that SNAP, when you crack that natural casing. Like old time Nedicks, Sabbretts Nathan's and down the block butcher shop for us east coast connoisseurs. Unfortunately their prices for red meat are way high, compared to our usual place.

With that 456 under the hood, Jerry just nails the gas pedal until the tires burn through the snow down to dry pavement. The only problem is the length of the umbilical that is connected to the nearest gas pump........

Only drove an F-body a few years in the weather and they needed snow tires. My 73 formula did OK in the snow and the 78 TA W72 was terrible. Now the peek behind the 78 was my 70 Grand Prix SJ that was an absolute tank in the snow. I did the 96 blizzard with out any issue until it became a snowplow. All cars had safe-t-trac (posi) rearends in them.
Drove the 70 GP out to Oregon two winters and never missed a beat. The 76 only saw a little snow once on a trip back from Oregon. I prefer RWD as long as it is balanced.
One thing many did not get is the 69-72 GP's are technically a mid engine car. When they added a few inches to the lemans/GTO frame it put the engine behind the centerline of the front axle. Outside of the weight the GP's were better balanced cars than like my 72 GTO. 5580155803[Flower]

Note to self, when working on multivariable calculus problems, don't go too fast and forget to write down a variable as you spend 3 pages expanding terms and solving only to get to the end and realize as you're double checking your work (when the answer doesn't make sense) that you messed up on line 2 of like 439 lines... Why? Because it was the cheapest flight and being an employee of the state of virginia, we are not allowed to purchase anything but the cheapest. Sole sourcing rules are a total PITA!! We have to price compare like at least 5 vendors (even if only 1 vendor makes such a thing, then it gets even harder).

Bummer that you *had* to fly through Chicago. I've flown (or tried to fly) through there so many times because it is the cheapest and most logical stop between Colorado Springs and Grand Rapids, MI (where my family resides). I've spent 2 Christmases in O'Hare by myself because of delayed and cancelled flights. I've had my dad drive 3.5 hours to come get me numerous times because of delays and cancellations. One time, I took a cab to the Indiana border and met my sister there who drove me back to GR. All in all, I've had some really crappy experiences in Chicago. Probably 60-70% of my flights through there have had problems, and about 90% of those were weather-related. Screw that place!
Well that sucks, but you can come home and have a couple beers later.

Not fun at all. We could see the Black Forest Fire flames from our house and we woke up with our house filled with smoke the day after the fire started because the winds died down and the smoke all settled downhill from Black Forest... which is where my neighborhood is located. We hosted some friends who were evac'd from the Waldo Canyon fire. Their house was heavily damaged, but the firefighters stopped the blaze one house over. They lost their fence and tool shed in the backyard. Crazy times in Colorado Springs!

I was actually deployed at the time. I had to watch Mrs. Belly and Didi evacuate on teh local news that I was able to stream. I almost freaked out when the news is talking about people evacuating and then in teh background I see my wife's (very distinctively bright yellow) Jeep drive past. The part that freaked me out was that she didn't have the trailer, nor did the Jeep look laden down (sagging in the back). That means she was gone in a hurry.
