Either way, He was really sick on Saturday, pretty bad on Sunday, and slowly improving ever since. I have spent hours on the phone with our beloved healthcare system that ya'll are about to get just trying to get an appointment. Finally, got through this morning at 0804 after 38 minutes on hold, and they told me that the only appointment they could get him into was at 8:30, 45 minutes away. They told me the best they could do was to have a triage nurse call me and determine if an off-base referral was warranted.

Just got a call from the triage nurse, and she told me everything I already know: make sure he is drinking lots, try pedialyte, watch for a fever, make sure he sleeps lots.. Really? i had no idea those things would help... [facepalm] then she excitedly informed me that they had a 0730 appointment available tomorrow morning, where a doctor is just going to tell me the same thing. [facepalm][facepalm][facepalm]

Don't like it? Go find the owner of the next car you see with an Obama2012 sticker and punch them in the throat.[Mad]

Yeah, the "flavorless" stuff is nasty! It leaves a really weird aftertaste that doesn't go away for a while. The flavored stuff is basically just gatorade. Electrolytes, sodium, sugar, etc... It's got what plants crave.

Yup, we weren't doing that until we got a $150 reward a few weeks back and decided that we should start using it for everything that recurs monthly, such as groceries, gas, utility bills (that we can pay with CC) and other misc stuffs.

Since HB Jr isn't really that sick any more, but he isn't allowed to go back to daycare without doctor approval (doctor appt is tomorrow, if you missed that from earlier), and I needed to get out of the house, we went for a drive back in the Pike National Forest. I went down just about every trail or road as far as I could before turning around.

Good idea. I haven't come up with a good way to carry a few extra gallons of gas. In my old truck, I just put a 5gal can in the truck bed and held it in place with rope. In the X, I guess I could put something on the roof, but I don't plan on getting a different roof rack or anything.

Another idea is a hatchet/axe. If you get stuck in snow/ice, you can use the hatchet/axe to cut down small pine trees to put under your tires for traction. My X is fully self sufficient should I ever get stuck and only had to recover myself once.

mcjunior, don't get coolant, carry water and a couple gallons. For backcountry camping, plan 1gal water per person per day but I typically carried an extra 1-3 gal total for vehicle stuff.

If you carry water and you spring a leak, it works (so get RO for that, not spring water). If you carry water and you don't spring a leak, you can drink it to make extra room in vehicle. If you pack coolant and don't spring a leak, you definitely can't drink it to make extra room and you'd be contaminating the environment if you just tossed it out.

Took me a minute to figure that one out. Being from Hawaii you probably had not heard of Sierra Cement.

Sierra Cement refers to "high" moisture content snow. Name comes from DOT workers in Sierra Nevada mountains in California. Sierra Nevadas are known for high snowfall totals of this "high" moisture content snow. It is heavy snow, hard to move and packs to ice as the temp falls.

In Colorado we typically see a dryer, lighter, more powdery snow, aka "Champagne Powder".
