And I realize I have zero knowledge on snake handling and did it wrong and almost got a strike.... Mid body slow and easy.... He is not even a week in his new enclosure though.
What a pretty snake, mcjhr! Is he gong to be shedding soon, or is that just he way the light caught his eyes? What kind is he?

Gorgeous. An albino what? I'm afraid most of my experience has been limited to the constrictors.
I fed mine live mice as well. I always just kept a card board box or a clear plastic tub. Just toss snake into tub, put mouse in, and let him eat in the tub. Every snake person will tell you that the best way is to feed them in a different enclosure. I'd say possibly even more so in your case because if you're afraid of snakes, you're less likely to be handling him often. You don't want the snake expecting a mouse every time you reach into the cage, only when he's in his feeding place. You don't have to worry about reaching into the feeding enclosure and getting bit because either 1) he'll have just eaten and will be kind of lethargic, or 2) he wasn't hungry and left the mouse alone, so he won't be likely to get you either.

i'm actually just going to seal it up like a sucking chest wound to keep the dirt out, then I'm going to take a tripod and a folding chair. I'll just sit there and shoot long distances. it'll be funny I think.

I'd suggest following Irving's advice- take him and set him in a differet enclosure. You want to also watch an make sure an aggressive mouse doesn't damage your snake before the snake is ready to eat. That's been my experience...but then again, I've only had experience with boas and burmese.

oh wait, tomorrow is OCW day. maybe I'll try impacts on paper at farther distances. see what a ladder test and a OCW test will show. I'm taking the .223 precision AR that MarkCO assembled for me (the upper, anyways) to get the first round jitters out.
nothing saying I have to start with the goal.... I need to get a couple practice rounds in there.

Also, while they're growing, they'll eat more often. When I first got my corn, I fed him every week for a long time, I want to say almost a year. After that it was about every 2 weeks to a month. One time he went into hibernation and didn't eat for about 6 months.

yep. I'm going to back the VW right up to the firing line and sit in the hatch.
the Tripod holds the gun securely, so all I have to do is point it in the right direction.
in any case, if the .223 sucks, then the LMT will just stay in the stable.

No prob! I'm using coco husk shreds and Orchid bark mix currently... Just did that actually! He has a hide over his undertank heat mat but exchanging it for a clay pot tomorrow. Other hide will go on "hot" side of tank. His name is popeye or Mr. Popeye. He should get 3'-4'.

Awesome! I used to use coconut shreds for a Burmese python I used to care for- they do love to burrow. Popeye...that's a good name. :)

Sand boa's are kind of weird looking. They don't get long looking like other snakes, they always look fat. I only had the sand boas for a few months though. Check out this fatty.

If snakes creep you out, sand boas would not be for you, because they bury themselves in the sand and you can't see them at all, so if you want to take one out, you just have to stick your hand in the sand and drag it around until you bump into one!

I guess there are hundreds of different colors of corns and milks and breeding them into new colors is a huge thing. If you start Googling them you'll see some crazy colors. Snake fans know the names of "who's big right now" in snake breeding I guess. I don't know that much about snakes. I just walked into a pet store one day and said, "I want that one!"

Ages ago, I used to work in a pet store. I was the manager for the small animals/reptiles/birds section (and later on, they gave me the fish section as well.) I learned a lot, and managed to keep the critters happy and well-fed. The Burmese python was happiest after she bit me. Once she did that, she'd settle right down. [facepalm]

i have no idea about that. it's just a show that I don't mind watching because it's not a cooking show or a 'looking for a house' or a 'fix everything that's wrong with my house bc I got a crappy contractor' shows.
that show "Holmes Inspection" and "Holmes Makes It Right" really creep me out. makes me want to never buy a house... or build it myself, really..

Be careful with the heat. Snakes can burn easy IF you don't regulate the heat, they get comfortable laying on the warm area, next thing you know get burned.
We had (work) a big constrictor, measured 14' before the zoo took him. Fed him chickens & roosters, after clipping their feet, you don't and they get torn up. He liked rabbits, hell anything you fed him. Kept 6 cinder blocks on the top to keep him in. he'd get hungry and start rattling the blocks around.
Had a rattler and a somewhat more exotic species. It hit a mouse it would stand there, then drop 2 maybe 3 sec after being struck.
Late friend had a caiman that thing was like the kids tarantula's. Put food in their living quarters nothing, then a quick blur foods gone.
Has anyone recently dropped Comcast? I need to prepare for the battle.

Well, I refuse to do ANY dish horse shit.
My on demand works fine, video and internet feeds are always there for me. The rising prices and Ultra Shitty customer service when there IS a problem, like when they totally fubard my switch from the old addy to the new one....gave me all new equipment at the new addy, and they insist that I didn't return a router from the old house.
The "service professionals" that installed my new set up, took ALL of my old equipment that day. They need to look to their own crappy employees for router loss, not me.

I have a receipt which is hard to read, but when push comes to shove, I'm gonna shove it up their ass.
I've been gathering paperwork over the past couple of days. I had a receipt from Microcenter that's really hard to read at the top, and I made a copy of it on my printer. My printer was able to darken things a little...enough to pull up the date, time and customer rep.
Cam Scan is a pretty great app if you don't have it already.

Let me tell ya a DISH story. Years ago I had a second receiver for the camper. I would call and have it turned off every winter and turn it back on in the spring. I only paid like $20 for the 301 basic box and it was kind of fun to use. So one winter I did not turn it off and thought nothing of it.......
Next winter I go to turn it off and am told that it is not possible because the receiver belongs to DISH and only a receiver that I bought can be turned off. So I ask the rep if she sees where I had had the unit turned off and on before? Why yes, but the computer shows that it belongs to DISH. So how was I able to turn it off before if it belonged to you? [pick-me][Bang]
In the end the computer won and I told her to send the boxes so I could return both units and cancel my service.

Oh, I give a crap....most of us do, I think. The whole list of mods has been streamlined? Several names you used to see aren't there anymore. Marlins name isn't in any of the threads mods anymore. We knew Lobo was a made man now. I mean, I saw that almost instantly when is name went yellow. Is there something else I completely missed?
I hope he still remembers the little guys on his way up the ladder.. :D

Comcast is pretty good if you feel like spending less than $50 for TV and Internet every month. When I move back to CA next year, I'll gladly be using Comcast for TV and Internet. We don't want much TV, but good internet is important to me.

They sent a tech out to test the signal, and he couldn't believe we were getting -anything- (much less TV and internet.) He ran all new cable, replaced all our equipment, fixed a bug that had been plaguing us since 2009 and it actually worked...for three weeks. Then internet began flaking again. On Demand flailed and choked every time we used it. We had to keep resetting the %$@# modem. And now, to add insult to injury, they've jacked up their prices. Time to clean house.

What is the difference between a moderator and a super moderator? And how/why is Lobo listed under both? [Dunno]
I noticed a few mods have 'retired' over the past few months.
Normally a "Moderator" has limited power in assigned forums only. In our case we do not have plain moderators for every forum and need all to be able to access all the forums and we trust those here with the hammer just in case a spammer gets going @ 3 am.
So even though he is listed and the color/font indicates a mod we list him on the Admin side under "additional groups" as a Super Mod. one checkmark does the work of giving one powers forum by forum. Marlin has retired from the day to day stuff. He still has all his tools and anytime he wants to be active will be welcomed back.
The big issue was that many saw his name listed and would PM/mail him with questions. Many would get frustrated after no reply so with his blessing we have rearranged the staff. Omicron has fully retired from the site and a couple of other staff have been deleted as mods due to inactivity. [panic] More to come.

Watched a Rampage competition broadcast from Utah today. First time for me. WOW. Intense for sure. Don't think my old Huffy from 40 yrs ago would have stood up to 40 foot drops or 80 foot jumps.

A couple that you would not even know. They are still a member just not a mod anymore. Does "Bumblebee Bob" ring a bell? I thought not. SAfriday is still very much here just busy with personal stuff and is still a mod. Omicron has left the site permanently.

I think I'm going to make the drive back in one day. It's 18.5 hrs. Way better than taking up two days on the road and paying for a hotel.

We did it with a 5 year-old, but no dog. Your kid is too little and it is WAY too cold out to be doing so. Also, we were in a rental, so I didn't care about sleeping with the A/C running all night!
When we go visit family in MN, we always make it a 2-day trip. That last leg of the trip can seem endless, on the way back.

Yeah. We could do it down to about 50*, but it's supposed to be awfully cold next week. Bigger issue is that I can't recline with the kiddo in the car seat right behind me and the Xterra is packed pretty darn full.

We learned this summer that traveling with a dog is a challenge. We picked "pet friendly" places on the way out and back and because of how we travel it was not the same place. Doing research made the places a great stop. [Flower]

Well, the lip-stick wearer in my house was mad at me for something, so my avatar got changed to something really stupid. Once I saw it, I had to go all the way back to the internet to try and find my old donkey avatar. On the way to finding my donkey, I saw a baby donkey with two broken legs. How can you NOT have that as your avatar?

Playin' a little 8 ball tonight. Doing pretty good, but I should spend some time running stop shots on a long rail for a while one of these nights.
If any of you guys play pool/ have your own table.....those little paper re-enforcement stickers for the three ring binder holes....are bad ass for placing on the cloth and practicing cuts/ cuts with psycho english application, and everything in between. Just sayin'.

Try a stop shot, cue from 1st diamond on one long end, and target at the first diamond from the opposite pocket on that same rail. Place each ball 1/16 - 1/8th from the rail, or step up and have the cue and target touching the rail. The drill is to start first diamond to second diamond, first diamond to third diamond, first diamond to side pocket, etc...etc...
Good luck with that. It's a bitch....makes ya a better pool player though.. :D

Advised work of a death in the family and unknown funeral date, so they cleared me off the schedule for the whole week. Now I find out funeral will likely be next week. At least what I had scheduled for today and tomorrow would have been canceled anyway. Also, the power steering went out in my Focus, so I have that to deal with now...
