Abstract thought perhaps, I'm thinking you're going to decide for yourself whether I'm a psycho or not but.....

I've seen some poor behavior by humans, some of it has been conducted by myself from time to time. I'm not proud of that fact, but I will admit it....and I do try to do better as I get older.

As you read this, perhaps you might reflect on an innocent incident that you might have created or been part of without taking the time to realize that you were at the time. I've been in crowded places with lots of people often enough, witnessed selfishness and pure lack of respect for the surrounding people, and just sheer blatant stupidity because no one is as important as you or your needs...ever.

I have a Sams card and shop there from time to time, no big deal....I've seen some over the top shit at a few of those stores over the years....I think you might know what I'm talking about.

I had the misfortune of going to the Costco at Wadsworth and I-70 today at around noon or so. I've never witnessed the frantic level of self serving selfish assholes all in one place at the same time. The entire property was like a massive anthill representing the worst of humanity, or lack thereof. Insane flow of outgoing traffic just trying to get in the door, and more buzz going on inside than a hive of horny bees just trying to bang that queen. I was there against my will, picking up pizzas for those who actually enjoy eating pizza......and while in the Les Nessman marks on the floor at the deli counter......I stood there and did a base reevaluation of society as a whole, and ended up with a hopeless and really disappointing view of the general public and our future. Looking at the people sitting there at the Snack Tables being the pigs that we are, watching the national IQ drop exponentially live in person....like watching the Oprah Springer show.

Okay, mini-rant over. Thanks for listening. I'll go back to my regularly scheduled problems... :)

Doing a two man job alone takes 10x time...

Hurts more too.

I'm getting to old, fat, and tore up to be wrenching on stuff, but I had to change out my hitch rails and shocks today.

Trying to work both sides of a bed alone sucks ass. Vise-gripping and bungee cord lashing wrenches so I could go impact wrench the other side blows. One fucking bolt at a time x8. Some are a total bitch to get to. No wonder I found two rusty old washers down inside one of the shock tower brackets between the bracket and frame. I guess the guys that installed the hitch didn't have any rags.

Of course, I find where they also didn't install required shims in one location between the bracket and bed on each side, and the bolts/nuts/washers, etc are pretty rusted after 13 years, so off to Murdochs for some new hardware. I thought I was paying for pro work, but as usual, I should have done it myself if I wanted it done right. Meh, it held up for 13 years, but I'm adding more tow and ping weight so I want it done RIGHT. I probably could have just put on grade 5, but decided WTH and got all grade 8. Someone cleaned out the entire bin of 1/2" grade 8 nuts. WTF? I found 3 rooting around in other bins. Had to stop at Napa and get raped there for more.

Shocks were kinda secondary, but because one was in the way of the hitch swap, I just got new Bilsteins.

Never did get the fronts done. Tomorrow if I'm not broken in the morning.

I am NOT looking forward to the exhaust brake install coming up... It will be great to have, but installation is gonna bite. It's mostly a one man job, I'm just not looking forward to it, lots of parts and connections and crawling around under the truck. Installing a new go box too, but that's not such a big deal. Couple wiring connections, mostly plug and play.

I'm gonna get started back up on my truck project soon hopefully....gonna be some of the same situation you've described, but it will be worth it when I get rolling on it.

The nurse was telling me how to properly remove the stitches by myself (with lots of winks) so I didn't have to come back in to pay to have it done. I told her I would cut the stitches with my already very sharp chisel. She suggested otherwise. I should have taken this picture and shown it to her for a greater effect.

All the people who vowed not to watch the NFL are watching the NFL.

FTR... I did boycott the NFL all year, but did watch the Stuper Blow last night. A friend wanted to see the commercials, and my friends Dad wanted to watch it so I made some wings for us and I secretly hoped that Brady would get a head amputation or something, and the Eagles would win. Turned out good.

I was born in Philly too, so I had a slight reason to see how it would turn out. :)

Eh, I've got a vise, and more clamps than I know what to do with. I was just being lazy.I have found this is biggest problem with DYI and I have been guilty of it my whole life.

Not laziness, over confidence and lack of experience. If you had spent 3 years as pro wood worker you would have known better and we would be calling you dumbass.

buffalobo
02-06-2018, 10:02
But you don't have the peer group around you. You learn much from the mistakes of others and have over sight to stop you before stupid happens.

DYI = nobody to enforce safety or common sense or make sure your over confidence doesn't become laziness/stupidity.

Driving to work this morning on a sheet of ice, I had an FJ Cruiser behind me acting like he had 4x4 and dangit, he was intending on using it to its perceived potential. I declared, as if he could hear me, that if he passed me I would gladly stop and render aid while making fun of him the entire time. Alas and alack, he simply pursued me in a frustrated manner and never passed. I never broke 40mph and only briefly shifted to 4th gear before realizing the rpms were far too low for 4th to be of use. Really surprised there was no delay declared.

Generally just family and "extended" (the people who swears your like family).

Long story..........it's also been a long day, month, 6 weeks.

I understand. I've been playing a general support and health care giver role for about the same amount of time. It's very draining for multiple reasons.....doesn't mean I don't care, it's just work that I'd prefer to not be doing, but doing it is the right thing to do...for multiple reasons. Not the least of which would be that I actually do give a shit.

They don’t have to be elderly.. watching anyone’s body fail them is miserable.

On the strange side of death.. it truly shows you what a family is made of, what priorities people have, and how fucked our species is.

Death is not easy.. for the living.

Also, when describing the act of shoveling snow the same word could be used, however there are others that would be more accurate when used in colorful and vibrantly constructed examples of free form expression concerning that specific topic.

It hasn't snowed enough to shovel down here. Are you being dramatic OBC?

OtterbatHellcat
02-10-2018, 01:13
I was referring to shoveling in general....which seems to be expected during the course of Saturday evening and Sunday at the other property.

If it snows enough, that will include plowing at work on my effing weekend. So, I think any amount of snow that requires removal by physical or mechanical means, can royally suck the frozen ripples on the bottom of my nutsack, while getting anally pounded by a gigantic eskimo with a huge icicle for a dick.

I believe this covers the "vibrantly constructed example" aforementioned.

Not very happy to be getting older.

Went for eye exam Friday. Eyes are still very healthy according to Dr but I need corrective lenses for reading and instrument work.

Will probably end up having to get dedicated shooting glasses after I figure out how prescription works with optics, sights and targets.

Dr did mention that I could bring in primary optic and build set of lenses specifically for it. Am sure that won't be expensive.

Everyone's eyes and way to fix them are not a cookie cutter solution. I cannot wear progress lens also, i cannot weat contacts, or corrective surgery, well i can. But if i did that based on previous ocular damage, the only way to fix the issue would leave me with no depth perception. That's from both a 2nd and 3rd opinion.

RDS are fine for some, until one gets past a certain yardage. Then for folks like me it's all (like a portion of my younger years) a blur. My glass guy said bring my pistol in (unloaded) and he'd set me up with lens for shooting. Bifocals did the trick. YESMV

I set an alarm using google, locked it and put it in my back pocket. Alarm never went off, never heard a tone for low battery or anything. Pull out phone some time later and it's black.

OK, maybe I let the battery drain, hadn't noticed. But it's setup to go into super saver mode when low so WTF? Won't charge from wall charger, won't trickle charge from computer, won't power on/reset. Computer sees only the Qualcomm device. online tech throwing BS that it just needs to trickle for an hour. Not that you asked, but I've come to the conclusion that I'll never pay full retail for a flagship phone again if they are only going to last 2 years or less. I recently replaced my Galaxy 6 with an LG V20. I think those two phones came out around the same time, but if a brand new V20 lasts me another two years for only $270, as opposed to the new V30 lasting only two years for $950, I'll be happy. Just tonight my G6 will no longer power on. Looks like I got a new phone just in time.

I bet your phone could count the tasks.

There are multiple places that will add up what all of the technology in a modern phone is worth. That's a fun rabbit hole to go down when you realize that you can get a phone for $200 that holds millions of dollars worth of technology if it were 1985.

E-mailed corporate. They called VZW Business. No physical or water damage for the 1st year = warranty replacement. "Manufacturing defect."

Replacement Phone is due in tomorrow before Noon.

Just wondering now, since my upgrade was only a 32GB Black S8, if they're sending me a 32GB or 64GB?

Doesn't matter much, I run a 128GB sdcard anyway.

My phone never left the house without a case and screen protector and could pass for brand new. If the replacement is a refurb, it had better be as like new as mine (except for the not working part.)

Now that they aren't, and cash up front allows no discounts, no more $1,000 phones. So far, I'm liking this idea of waiting a few years and buying brand new old models on clearance. I'm not the guy that needs to be on the cutting edge of technology anyway, I just want the dang thing to work like it's supposed to.

This last upgrade "fee" was the top I'd pay for a few years. $250. I had the option to go S8+ for $350 but even that's too much, plus it's too damn big.

I'd always lagged behind with the $50 or free upgrades when eligible but with older model phones. On rare occasion, if you killed a phone before upgrade eligible, corporate would use one of many they had in reserve (employees that left, credits they get for usage, etc.) In my case last December, it was an opportunity to get current with the phone everyone was recommending. Hell, I took a poll here...

While initially concerned about reports of easily broken glass on the S8's curved screen, I've been completely pleased with the S8 other than the PITB it was to put on a screen protector. That is, until it bricked itself. Researching the issue, I found reports of early release models bricking during user first time setup, but the issue seemed to have been resolved. Maybe I got one on the cusp. Hopefully, Samsung has worked things out and I won't have any further issues.

Since the computer could see the core processor, but the phone won't start or charge, I'm of the opinion the internal memory failed. To that point, I'd posted earlier that it was a 32GB, but I'm not seeing that they ever released a 32GB version (they did for the S7) so maybe I'm mistaken and it was 64GB. Frankly, with either option, I wasn't battling issues of insufficient internal memory like I was with my 16GB S5 and the add-on 128GB card was carrying all the data for apps that used/permitted it, the bulk of that being music and photos/vids.

In the middle of or taking ? Either way, somewhere along the line you'd be in the middle of it

I was at work listening to a "know it all" contradicting the kid about something stupid anyways, and I probably looked like some creepy bastard chuckling to myself.

I was gonna go on about not actually being a creepy bastard, but at the same time I bought some costume stuff last night just for the purpose of entertaining an old lady. The truth is....she was mortified by a young black man tending to her private areas after an incident in the assisted living establishment. I picked up a lab coat, giant afro wig, black face paint and some other shit and I'm going to put it all on this morning just to get a laugh out of her and the family. So, I might be a creepy bastard, but at least I'm a funny creepy bastard. ha ha.

Well fuck me to tears.

Got the new phone today and went through setup. The fukn WiFi doesn't work. It sees all the Wifi stuff, just won't connect, claims wrong password and authentication failures. Reports of issues all over the internets.

Change the password on one of my networks, tried disabling the 5G radio, created an open network and nothing there either. Won't connect to my MiFi, won't connect to my wife's phone's hotspot.

Uh oh, downloaded RecRoom for PS4VR a few days ago, but didn't play until tonight. Didn't realize there was a mic, but In think all the swearing was done on my kids character which may have the mic turned off. Anyway, very fun, and it was free. Paintball capture the flag is tits. Can dial wield, and get shotguns, rifles, and grenades.

In addition, there are also quests you can do. Bows, crossbow, Roman candle, or swords. You can run ahead and spawn/agro stuff, just like in WoW, but in virtual! I had a lot of fun, even though I'm terrible and dragged everyone down, and stayed up too late.

I was trying to sawz-all through what I thought was a sideways nail and couldn't figure out what was taking so long. This was flush with the wood when I started cutting it. It wasn't until I pulled the board from the other side that I realized what I was dealing with. I used my favorite chisel to remove some wood to get purchase with nail puller. This son of a bitch was in the concrete, so still took a substantial amount of effort on my part. You can see why it was taking so long to cut through once I removed some surrounding wood.

Oh snap! This just in. After discussing with the wife how the open-ness of the new doorway is great, but now looks awkward compared to the other rounded doorways; we've determined that instead of eliminating the curves in the other doorways, it'd be far easier to just recreate the same rounded shape in the big doorway. "Easier" is a relative term here, and probably not even the correct word, since any drywall related repairs in this house are not "easy" in any real sense. If I'm already working on the difficult drywall for this doorway, might as well make some more dumb curves.

Next, is to determine what to do with the equally as ugly sconce light in the hallway. It is a scone for a reason, so it's going to stay a sconce. I had thrown around the idea of making an inlet (with dumbass matching curves) on the wall. While having my wife look up scone fixtures online to see if there were any she liked, she found several, but they were large. There isn't much room in the hallway as it is, BUT if I make a dumb inlet, I can put a prominent, decorative sconce inside the inlet. This will beautify the space, maintain the dumbass "character" of the house with the curves, and keep the sconce out of the way.

Good talk everyone. Thanks for helping us work through this situation.

Now, how do I want to go about this? You can see in the photos that the original builders just used a 45 degree 2'x4' and slapped a bunch of plaster in there. I think I'll pass on that technique. So the question is, buy a Universal Arch kit like so:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y86r3DpQWQE

Or build my own and make it an arch instead of just rounded corners since the doorway is now about twice as wide.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwHnQfI0cwk

Stupid asshole remodeling.

Irving
02-22-2018, 08:50
Probably not that much. The biggest hassle will still be working around the drywall, which has lathe in the corners and is 6/8" thick. With as long as it takes me to do stuff though, and for only $20, it's probably worth it.

I got rid of this stupid asshole arched doorway. Future generations living in this house will thank me greatly when it's time to move in. I'm considering getting rid of the arches in the other two doorways, but I may determine it it to not be worth the trouble.

Finally, I went to the liquor store to get some alcohol to treat my cut. I bought a mix pack of Mexican beer, which I NEVER do, but it was the cheapest mix-pack, and came home to discover this was one of the selections.

It tastes like Jehova-damn sawdust!!

Ding.

Nasty beer.

I rode one of those old school slide hammer nail pullers for a couple summers doing demo work for my pa and cleaning up boards for re-purpose.

Lol love you guys. Our family has gone through kind of a lot in the last few years... several months apart, buying a house, selling a house, moving, new jobs, new kiddo, and some crazy extended family drama. We should be moving out of CA next summer, and odds are good that it will be back to Colorado, but so far the Air Force hasn't given me anything that I've asked for. [facepalm]Got the oldest one out shooting yet?

Glad to see you checking in. Keep em safe.

Went to Home Depot because they sell the Universal Arch Kit for $19.99, but apparently only online. Guy at Home Depot kind of treated me like some asshole when he couldn't find it, and had apparently never even heard of the thin drywall stuff that flexes into a curve. I may order it, but I may also just try the template.

ice skated 68,000 pounds for 50 miles through Western Wyoming on Tuesday. Would have been more fun if not for all the scared drivers doing 25 mph in the fast lane.

Had an epic range day today in Georgia in preparation for the next few days hog hunts. Lots of 6.5 based rifles...super loud. 300blk and 308 rifles look like the ticket for hogs...hopefully we'll get more than last year.

Thanks. Just checking in to see what's new. :)

Not quite yet. He turns 5 this year, but I don't think he's quite ready.

Thanks, I'm used to it. Only time it really bothers me is when the winds are 40 mph or higher. That's when white knuckle syndrome appears.

I've driven through Wyoming for 4 years now with empties, loaded 53'ers, doubles and flatbeds.

Drove through 70 mph winds over Elk Mountain on Sunday with 68,000 pounds.

Wyoming I-80 is not for the faint of heart.
