We'll see if I actually see anything. I've been looking at the unit where my family land is located, on OnX, and it's pretty shitty. Everything is Colorado State Land - No public access. There is just over 5,000 acres of publicly accessible land in the entire unit (our land is bordered on two sides by one of the portions). There is an additional 2,700 acres of BLM, but 90% of it is under water. I don't mind walking, I should probably try unit 87 in the future.

When you're prone pull your left knee up and shift torso little right. Will get you off of diaphragm so you can breath.

Irving
10-02-2019, 22:41
Now that's a good tip. Where would you say the center line of the body should be in relation to the center line of the rifle?

I have never hunted antelope on the plains of Colorado. Have always hunted northwest corner or Wy.

Body and gun might not be in straight line. Go with most comfortable.

Are you shooting rifle left handed? I thought I remembered you shooting IDPA left handed.

If shooting right handed pull up right knee.

I'm definitely right handed. I thought YOU might be left handed.

Funny story out of my 5 kids 2 are left handed and one righty is left eye (3 lefty shooters/ eventual shooters) which makes me the guru of small bore precision left hand rifles hahaha even rebarreled a savage mkii left hand action with a heavy barrel and put globe sights on it

I’m that weird kind of ambidextrous that prefers to throw with my right and write with my left. I’m slightly right eye dominant but can have fun with any combination of eye / hand. I always found it sorta funny that I’m better at shooting some firearms with one hand over the other. 1911’s run best in my left hand while Sig P220’s prefer my right hand.

buffalobo

Same for me but slightly left eye dominate. If shooting single hand am more accurate off hand(left) than strong hand(right).

SO Oct 1st was our towns National Night Out annual event.
https://natw.org/

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. The state of Texas and select areas celebrate the first Tuesday in October.

Decided to attend as last years was a conflict with other things.

The ones in CO were mostly local business promoting their shops. Nothing out of the ordinary for a purple (ok now blue) state

Down here it's similar, but a little different, when it comes to vendors. Rides and a jump house, plus they had 4 areas where the kids could win prizes by knocking things down or off a perch. However instead of bean bags they were using (GASP!) water pistols and nerf guns. None of this p.c crap.

Then we had 3 vendors who were gun stores. 1 of them had a table full of higher end select fire rifles as well. Along with a few DD items. The other 2 gun stores had the usual suspects.

Throw in a few people open carry. All of this at a LE event.

What a difference from CO.

Did you open carry?

A friend's son's neighborhood in Monument has an open carry night every week. LOL

What snag? Pic?

This video indicates that I was on the wrong settings for welding uphill, which I didn't even think about.

Use to be you'd grab what ever was laying around, throw it on tables, hang a few signs and do a garage sale.

Right now it's day 3 of assembling tables and stuff for next weeks sale.

Or as the locals put on their signs

CRAP 4 SALE.

Well by golly I was headed to the truck and looked down to see the horns of a bedded buck right below me. Stalked to 62 yards and took him right there. How about that!

But I'm 2 miles from the truck and it's walk in only....

Hey thanks. I actually took two shots at this guy. The first one at about 325ish, which is the shot you see. I took a second shot at about 425ish which was a miss. I didn't realize that I got him the first time as everything was happening pretty quickly. I proned out on my pack and the first attempt was just a click. I ejected the round and there wasn't even a dimple in the primer, so I'm not exactly sure what was going on. Everyone ran off, and he stopped to look at me, and when I took the second shot, he ran off again. I hiked over to where they were running away, as I wanted to make sure that I didn't leave anything and I saw him laying dead pretty quickly. Pretty exciting for me.

So, I've never processed my own meat before, and don't really know what I'm doing. There are plenty of resources out there, so I'm going for it. I bought a vacuum sealer, and it died on the first piece of meat, so that's going back tomorrow. I don't have a grinder, so there won't be any burger or sausage. I was pretty concerned about the meat, but so far I think it will turn out okay.

Here is some meat I took straight out of the "feed to the dog" pile. Threw some seasoning on and seared it up. I have to say that I'm pretty pleased. This meat is downright sweet. It's not looking promising here for pronghorn, none to be seen for miles. Our cats will be disappointed, they love the meat.

Neither my dog, or the cat would touch the raw meat. It made me feel like if they won't eat it, I wonder if I'll like it. Also, it made me think less of them both.

I could see how some people wouldn't like it, and I could see getting sick of it as well, but I like it. Never had antelope before. Plus, I currently have a whole fridge full of meat.

Good job! You will get better quality meat and more of it if you process it yourself. And you'll save a $$bundle. While cutting and packaging meat or making sausage is real work, the fun part is tasting the pan-fried samples you're working on. Black & Tans or a hearty stout is a favorite accompaniment, or maybe a good rich red wine. I'm butchering today and frying samples, enjoying a Kir Royale (champagne & Creme de Cassis), strangely appropriate for the sweet tender pronghorn steak pieces.

Worth noting, if you like a little salt on red meat or fish like I do, be sure to use Kosher salt, not iodized salt. The iodine additive imparts bitterness to meats and if you eat green veggies you don't need the extra iodine. Kosher salt is milled finer and imparts more salt flavor with less sodium.

And how was it?

I bungled one stage, but that was after I had a nose bleed for 1/2 an hour & my truck looked like a crime scene inside. Once I had my skull managed & I was cleaned up a bit they let me shoot it but by then my stage plan was toast, my mojo was soaking into the floormats & half a box of Kleenex, my phone was somehow cracked & then my shooting glasses broke as I was walking to the line to shoot. I just wanted to be not holding folks up from breaking down the stage anylonger so I put on my sun glasses just did it to be done. Not that I might have done any better if I had shot it earlier though, it was already a complicated/ difficult cof.

Otherwise I did as well as I had hoped to do for shooting an impromptu second match this weekend (very tired), using an unfamiliar firearm & shooting with a bunch of very talented folks I don't know & don't know me (anxious maybe is the word to describe it). I'm probably being unnecessarily critical of myself though because If I hadn't told anyone it was my first match of this sort, I'm not sure anyone would have guessed it.

Again, mostly alphas, a few Charlies & couple of mikes. I don't often miss & the few I did were because I accidentally overlooked a couple of obscured targets on that very last stage.

My hits are there & I want to go faster but that won't actually help so I need to be patient & shoot more matches, it will come. I might do a steel match @ CRC in a few weeks just to see if I like it too.

Also was able to complete my yellow card today so... there is that. ;-)

Lastly, i now have to figure out what I want my pcc build to be & if I can afford it in an already tight training budget. Play a little violin for my troubles. Giggle.

Well there's a lot of AR's in the pcc range. However for working within a budget and still get a damn fine pcc, i'd suggest the ruger PC 9mm take down. Iron sights are actually on the money, a decent - good RDS holds zero. Even when taken down then set up for range time, it holds zero.

I was talking about theeat being sweet last night. That's really only the crappy scrap meat apparently. The stuff we are tonight was down right amazing. Zero "gamey" flavor. One of the pieces of rare tenderloin, with just salt, pepper, and garlic, was one of the best pieces of meat I've ever had. My pre-teen loved it. Ate there heart no problem. Really happy to send buddy home with a whole backstrap and some sirloin.

C.Norris, you're being too hard on yourself for a first match. Well done. Isn't it interesting how when you are doing the same thing, but a different "sport," you feel like you fall apart? We used to have sausage making parties and used the manual hand crank food grinders to make 200-300 lbs of sausage at a time. They work fine. We've use our Kitchen Aid for years but I'll never part with the old hand crank units. I was gifted a high production grinder but it croaked the first time we used it. 5 acres or over
Pretty nice and properly constructed shooting range 100” long by 50” wide which narrows to about 30” closer to the berm

Located in Gilpin County, close to halfway between central city and Idaho Springs
Patented Mining claim
5 acres or over
Pretty nice and properly constructed shooting range 100? long by 50? wide which narrows to about 30? closer to the berm
Run and gun shooting range set up on property as well

It?ll be listed for 540k or roughly thereabouts

Damn close to the Denver metro area for a shooter looking to be able to have a little pew pew action before the commute to work

Is that along the Central City Parkway?
I am guessing the shooting range is feet and not inches or maybe the forum is changing the symbols.

Lol, yes it was supposed to be feet and not inches. It’s a little ways off of the Central City parkway, located at the end of Russell Gulch and the driveway is just off of Virginia Canyon Road, just a short drive from Oh My God Road.

I am running into this with local suppliers even.
The home-rule cities require a tax license from any vendor selling into their cities. One of the vendors told me there are 84 home-rule cities in Colorado.
It just isn't worth the time or money to maintain and report to 84 cities in addition to the state-collected subdivisions.
One alternative is to have UPS pick it up at their will-call.
UPS is designated under the state law as your company rep and when they pick up they are taking delivery and you pay the tax at the pick-up location.
Sound bizarre and complicated?

Since procedure was scheduled early we changed up normal routine last night to avoid having Reba be in kennel for 6 hours over night, getting 1-2 hour break and then having to go back in kennel for another 6 hrs.

Everything blew apart with text from neighbor letting us know that coyotes were harassing their horses and their dogs had gotten loose and were chasing coyotes towards our place.

About the same time Mrs bo had let Reba out due to changed schedule and could not get her to come back inside.

Reba lost her mind when coyotes and dogs ran through yard. She was going nuts trying to get out of yard. Fearful she would be injured trying to scale fence I had to man handle her into the house. She was pissed and chewed me up pretty good getting her in house.

So far I’m liking Duolingo, it’s not the boring textbook approach

So the biggest help I found, was hitting that little flag when I get one wrong and don't understand something. That leads to a discussion forum about that particular lesson. Like any forum, it's mostly people interacting in a way that isn't that helpful, but it's very strictly monitored, so it's not like dropping into a general discussion thread. More important there are educated people that either explain things, it past a link to another, usually great, learning site that I never would have found on my own.

The other thing is watching things in French, with French subtitles. If you do English subtitles, you'll just read and tune out the French.

I watched this series on YouTube for Spanish. They have one in French. I found it useful because they talked slow, and that's what you need in the beginning.

Thank you for both of those pointers Irving. I’ve watched just about every WWI and WWII video streamed on amazon or Netflix and feel like it might be a good idea to start watching those again in French with French subtitles

Back home and settled in. Mrs bo resting and Reba appears to be operating at better stress/insanity levels.

Time for nurse mode.

...and now I'm caught up with this thread.

I'm reading through a bunch of agreements. Looks like I've got a consulting gig for 6 mos. to a year. Will be nice to get back in the game and have some money coming in again.

Congratulations on landing the consultant gig. Always hard having to sell yourself every half year or so, but normally the money is worth it.

Monday evening as it was almost dark I was in the forest by the house admiring my chainsaw work when I heard a bull moose grunting as he walked down the driveway. He stopped a few times and I don't think he saw me but might have scented me at one point. I've seen him before but he has since developed a limp. I checked the Stealth Cams today and determined it's his left rear leg. No apparent blood so I wonder what the cause is. The cams showed that he's walked along the trail by the house at least 3 times in two weeks but he can travel through most anywhere through the yard.

We also have 3 different bears moving through regularly. I think a neighbor is baiting them. I'll keep the electric fence energized until the snow piles up deep. I can disconnect the lower wires so the snow doesn't ground them out and still keep the upper ones hot. I do like that the bears respect the fence. Good thing they don't wear rubber soled running shoes.

I think some copper would fix his limp but it will have to be some one else's.

Wish I could get a bear permit here but they[re like unobtainum, very few available. I have a bear tag for the units I'll hunt in the Flat Tops area. There are plenty of bad bears there that have chewed on my elk and I want payback.

And do we have naughty otters here! I've got stories. Tomorrow otter be a good day for that.

Oh dude, download Duolingo. It's free and had a lot of thought behind the programs. Give a few lessons a run and let me know what you think. I've got some tips that have really helped out my learning. I'm not sure I have a talent for languages, so I have to make them into my head the hard way.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just started the intro to Spanish until I ran out of hearts. I really dig the format, and opted to do the 7 day free trial, if I feel like it?s actually teaching me, I will absolutely pay for the subscription, as I?ve wanted to learn Spanish for quite awhile.

I see people talking about the hearts online in the discussion, but have never seen them. I wonder if it's an A/B trial thing or something.

Usually when I like things I recommend buying them, but I wouldn't with Duolingo because IMO, you don't really gain anything except no ads. Ads only bother me when I'm trying to maintain a steak and it's getting close to midnight. However, they recently changed it so that even one lesson counts towards your steak, so even if you have your daily goal level set to five lessons, only going one lesson a day will maintain your steak.

Like many things, in the beginning your going to feel like you're learning a ton and you're going to be speaking Spanish in no time! Eventually, the lessons start feeling tedious, which is why things like Extra Spanish on YouTube, watching movies, and looking at other info is important, just to change things up.

Finally, as C.Norris has pointed out, trying to actually talk to people is important. I find that most ladies working at Mexican food places will talk to you (as long as they aren't super slammed or something). Be warned though, as confident as you'll feel going into a conversation, the first time you trip over yourself so hard you'll wonder if you had a stroke. You'll also immediately shift your opinion on people living here and not looking like they are trying very hard to learn English.
