I've got probably about 10 people from work, a few friends who are local, and maybe 2 or 3 from the forum who have offered to help so far.

Shameless solicitation: If you are free on Saturday the 16th and want to help out a fellow gun-owner and liberty-lover move 10 minutes up the road in Colorado Springs, shoot me a PM! Mrs HoneyBadger will provide lunch of some sort if she is able (she'll be at about 38 weeks on March 16th!).

You may want to start a thread, asking for assistance. In my experiences of moving, over half the people that volunteer to help never show. That would also be the time to put if you need moving boxes, moving vehicles and so on. Mrs. HB should be relegated to supervision of where things are put in the new house, instead of worrying about rustling lunch. Does she have any help during this move? (I don't mean to be bossy- I've experienced a number of household moves, and learned from each one.)

I expect everyone from work who offered help to follow through: military folks tend to understand that moving can be a b*tch and are very good about keeping their word. It's going to be a super-easy move. We're going about 10 minutes up the road. Everything will already be boxed up and ready to go, and I will have already moved quite a bit of it by myself. The biggest thing we'll need help with is the heavy furniture like our bedroom set, the treadmill, refrigerator, etc. I have a 16 ft long enclosed trailer.... so that will help a lot.

ETA: this is my 4th move in 3 years. Two of the moves were from CO to CA and back to CO. The last one was a year ago out of a crappy apartment. This one is (hopefully) to stop renting forever!

Good deal. :) I hadn't realized you work with military folks. That's awesome that you'll have your own home, especially with a new baby on the way. When we moved into our home, all we could think of was, "What took us so long?"

Let me see what our schedules look like; we may be able to offer assistance.

And I have to keep telling Mrs HoneyBadger to sit back and relax because she wants to do everything still. She's already packed up a bunch of boxes and our garage is about half full of stuff that is ready to go. Don't kid yourself though... she is still incredibly spry: she still runs about 30 miles a week... which is more than me or any other sane person! lol

Thanks for the heads up. It's confusing because each company makes 10000 different models (which is what they want). We are looking for a front load washer and dryer set... hopefully under $1500

I've never poached eggs. How do you do it?

Fill a nonstick skillet with 1.5 inches of water
Bring to hot simmer, just below boil (i used about 190 F.. checked with thermometer just to get it right first time but now I know stove setting)
Add a tablespoon of vinegar (optional but supposed to make eggs cook better or something)
Crack your egg open in a small cup
Gently pour the egg out of the cup into steaming water and cook for 4 minutes
Pull egg out with a slotted spoon and dry on paper towel

I'm going to start poaching instead of frying.. no fat added. I ate them over buttered toast with some cheese on top, and some sausage.

The vinegar is not only supposed to make the egg taste better, but it helps the egg sort of stay in one area, instead of flowing everywhere and sticking to the pan. I'd also suggest using some non-stick spray very lightly on your slotted spoon.

And as an aside....LOOK! I made it beyond my 30-day probation! I'm a PAPER HUNTER now. *struts*

Oh piece of cake!

As The Grey said, the vinegar keeps the egg from spreading all over. Vinegar also helps if you are trying to hardboil an egg that has been cracked. Somehow the vinegar keeps the egg inside the shell (even if it has a large and obvious crack).

Vinegar also helps if you are trying to hardboil an egg that has been cracked. Somehow the vinegar keeps the egg inside the shell (even if it has a large and obvious crack).

Wish we could keep the cracked ones from blowing out in the steamer. Yes, we use our vegetable steamer to hard "boil" eggs. Works great.

I wonder if rubbing a little vinegar on them would do anything?

Maybe? interesting idea... when hardboiling 4 eggs, I usually just put in a teaspoon of vinegar.

Honeybadger, I have a solution for your landscaping. It's far less expensive than sod, requires little maintenance and looks charming. The bonus is that if/when you or Mrs. Honeybadger get tired of the flowers and plants, it's easily changed out.

Our front yard looked like the moon last year, because we get the full force of the sun. Our neighbor is one of those rare people that has a zen manner of landscapery about him; he placed wandering paths made from flagstone over the most drought-stricken areas of our yard; some mulch in others, and placed flowerpots both above and below ground (depending on their level of attractiveness) fpr shots of color and bloom. It cuts down on watering, looks both unique and attractive, and doesn't take the constant maintenance that a lawn demands.

Thanks for the advice! This is basically what we are doing with our front yard (full sun exposure). The back yard will be mostly grass, but we'll have built in sprinklers and a few decent sized trees to provide a little shade.

Grass is the biggest waste of water in the U.S. right now and it serves no real purpose. Turn it into a functioning produce store. When SHTF you will be much happier eating a garden instead of dead grass.

We have talents! And lawns that drain our bank accounts. I say it's a creative solution.

Scogin, I'm going to try gardening this year. Any advice as to what grows best in this climate?

...and doesn't take hours of time?

I will certainly have a decent sized produce garden eventually, but right now we want someplace for the little HoneyBadger and the dog to play.
