Insulation?

I need insulation done in my attic. We still have the original insulation from 1974, so its horrible. Not to mention, there is no attic ventilation, so installing both will be next winters project.

Thing that sucks the most, is I wanted to lay down insulation over my garage and put plywood on top so I could have a nice storage area. But, of course, the rafters are 24" apart and the only way to get 24" wide rolled insulation is through special order and its way too expensive. So what does anybody do in that situation? They put it off for another year LOL

Go to Home-Depot, grab some blow in insulation, rent their machine and have at it....Cheaper then you might think.

Good morning Whores... the fire was fantastic. Glad the wind calmed down enough to enjoy one. Gonna get moving on lunches for the week, spaghetti it is.

Date rape machine?...lol .. I hope my wife doesn't know that. Come to think of it, she's only been in it five times or so. Been wanting to make it to some of those Golden cruises, maybe next month. I did once last year and it was pretty cool, lots of nice stuff up there....and some junk too. Fun though.

Ordered an Eagles anthology from Rocklys last week and it showed up yesterday, 33 of their hits are just waiting for me to struggle with.. lol My instructor asked if I had any interest in learning Hotel California, I said yes....he asked if I had sheet music for it....I do now.

Thx, good to know. It's a suncast but i think they are like a rubbermaid. This ones only 3 x 5, but would hold everything I need to put in it. Suncast stuff holds up really well. My in laws have had a suncast box for storing their patio furniture cushions for almost 10 years and the thing that finally killed it was the Half inch+ hail that also gave them a new roof, a bunch of new windows, and 2 new cars.

Jim/HB/OBC, what are the storage units sitting on?

I'm basically on clay. I'm thinking I'm going to scrape off a nice and level spot, then tamp it down really hard with my spud bar, then just lay down some large pavers to make a pad. I could also use gravel, but I'd have to come up with some kind of edging so the gravel doesn't spill into the yard. I want the base to be just above ground level so my wife can easily get the mower in and out if she has to mow.

Haha, dang, was hoping I could get two posts back to back.

I would say at least an inch for drainage. When I rerouted my water line, I did a total of 2 inches, but that was mostly to provide a cushion for the PEX pipe so none of the huge ass rocks would puncture it.

Looks like the patio blocks are 1.75 in thick so maybe I'll just go an inch to keep the floor relatively low.

The freaking soil here expands two-fold when I loosen. I'll end up with a huge amount of clay that I have to dispose of... I'll probably flick it over into the neighbors yard (I think they are libs)

I did the same, took me quite a while to buy components, but I think I was up and running in just 2mo, with my limitation being that I only had 250 bullets. xtremebullets finally started accepting more orders, so now I have a couple thousand to load. Sand or Gravel then the pavers are gtg. Tamp the sand tight and then wait another day or 2 then check before putting the shed up.

Belly, that is a nice looking bench. Did you have to sacrifice any sturdiness for the folding legs?

I don't think so, but the legs needed to be rounded a bit so they could rotate.

Kind of agree. I get mine for $39 plus tax per thousand at my local gun shop. Seems high when I look at Midway's price, but dividing out the hazmat fee and shipping costs, $39/1k is about as good as you can get unless you buy FTF.

$45 after tax is a little on the higher side, but if you don't have to pay the hazmat fee and shipping fees, its almost worth it (that is unless you're buying 5k or more).

BuffCyclist

Yup, just go slowly. I bought the tumbler first to process my brass. Then I found some bullets/powder/primers at my LGS, so I bought those. Then I got a press and some dies and could barely load using just the lee powder scoop. Then came the scale and I started weighing a few loads to see it would be impossible to do with lots of rounds. Then came the lee powder dropper and now I charge the case at the same time I flare it for the bullet.

Reloading is MUCH more straightforward than I thought it was. Just get a manual, read it. Get another, read it too, and then become OCD with everything you do.

I was already extremely OCD, so reloading is really quite zen for me.

BuffCyclist
06-02-2013, 22:14
Primers and powder are hardest to get, so keep on the lookout!

This. I drop into my LGS every other week to see if they have any powders I want and or primers. They've been getting more regular shipments in lately, but each time I've been there, they get like 5 phone calls of people asking what they have in stock.

My LGS's bullets are overpriced and they really aren't getting any in stock, so I buy them online where they're always cheaper when I can find them in stock.

I'm early/mid 30s and I have zero debt. I ate ramen and pb&j for a long time to make it happen. The hard part is that you have to justify to yourself as to why you're not eating out, going to movies, participating in hobbies, etc. while you chop away at your debt.

If there's only so much money coming in, then mass as much as you can as early as you can to the debts that have the highest interest rate. Once that debt has been eliminated, roll that payment into the next laon/debt. It's easy if you try.

Now, my wife and I live off of less than $2500/month. We save and invest and don't incur more debt. It's a pretty nice feeling that in about 8 years I can just disappear and be financially independent.

Congrats man, that's awesome!

We had zero debt until we bought a brand new house... now we owe $$$$$ on that, but everything else is paid off. It's nice only having 1 monthly bill to worry about. If we can at least maintain our current joint income, we can have our 30yr mortgage paid off in about 20 years while still living comfortably and enjoying raising our kids.

We have yet to buy a house. We're saving (not spending) every month with one of the specific goals of buying a house within the next 6 years or so. I think I'm on my way out of the military due to medical reasons, and I'd like to get the house bought and set up before the craziness of dealing with the VA and all that.

That's a good plan. Borrow as little money as possible and you'll never regret it. (Unless of course we start hyperinflating or something) [panic]

Are you making bi-weekly payments so you end up making 13 payments on the mortgage in a year instead of 12? Thats what we setup when we got our 30yr mortgage. After our wedding, we're going to be applying an extra $100 to principal each payment, which is 25% extra. If I did the math correctly (and I'd like to think I did) we'll have the 30yr mortgage paid off in about 21yrs. That is, assuming we stay in this house, but I kind of hope we don't because that would mean I'd be stuck living in the desert that long. And I hate the desert.

I stopped going to their website because there were too many things that kept ending up in the shopping cart and with the credit card saved, all I had to do was click submit. Also applies at BCM.

I'm really trying hard to not buy another scope or rifle, BUT...... I don't have my rifle built just yet. I need a good R700 SA scope base....

The EGW base I got is pretty nice, not a badger but it fit up really well when I mounted it. Zero holds dead on.

I've got a lot of things to do tomorrow, mostly random errands around town.

How long does it take to drive from one side of Alamogordo to the other? Or do you have to go to another town for stuff?

I'm paying an extra 200 principal each month. It doesn't seem like a lot right now, but WOW it makes a difference in the long run!

I got lucky and hit a refinance just right. Switched from a 30 year at 4.7% to a 15 year at 2.5%. Payments only went up $125/mo and my interest and principle basically flipped, so now I'm mostly just paying my home's equity instead of paying the bank. Bank even covered most of closing.

About 7-10 minutes. I live on pretty much the far end of the town, right at the edge by the mountains, so all errands can be done by making one loop around the city lol.

So, haven't done that much research but have been considering a Rem700 build (Rem 700 SPS Varmint in H-S Precision Stock, SWFA 10x mrad scope, undecided rings, harris bipod). Are the Badger Ordnance scope base considered the best for the Rem700?

It definitely does, because all of that payment goes towards principal which is what people don't realize. Stupid amortization schedules! My current payments are only putting like $155 towards principal.

Wow, that's a spectacular improvement! With the $200 extra, I'm paying about $500 down on my principal each month. We probably bought a little more house than we should've... lol

I think Badger are considered the premo option by a lot of people. But hell I don't know the difference so I just bought stuff that got good reviews and was still affordable.

I bought an R700 SPS V for like $400 a couple years ago. Dick's was running a special and there was a factory rebate. I've been on the cheap but here's what I have on it now...

Bell and Carlson stock ~$220
Factory bdl floorplate ~$50
EGW scope base ~$40
Burris XTR 30mm rings ~$40
Millett TRS1 scope ~$275
Harris bipod ~$80

Not at the rate your cranking the kids out [ROFL1]

500/month towards principle is still really awesome! I think before my refi only about $250 was going towards my principle so you'll be set based on that experience.
