I did get the phone call from Weld County today telling me I can come up for my CC I.D. Saturday morning at 8:15....so I got that going for me.

Definitely not a booby trap. Maybe just some faulty wiring or something... ;) A few thousand volts at .000005 amps is enough to really sting, but doesn't even come close to causing permanent damage.

The wife was badgering me (I know, I know... I'm so punny!) about not doing enough housework, so I ran away and hid in my new workshop and built myself another lower. This one is a ATI polymer stripped lower. It seems amazingly strong and it fits very snug with the LPK and any of my uppers. The polymer shaves a few ounces off the total weight, but its barely noticeable in my hands.

The bright side is: if it is crap and breaks like everyone says it will, I got 2 of them for the same price as an aluminum lower.

Also, now I have a lower without an upper. I need to fix that... [Muaha]

GG - sounds good, but our plans got derailed by finances. Won't be able to do anything fun until at least after Sept, when she graduates. We're walking a very fine line right now between the red and black, and I REALLY don't want to find myself selling off any more guns to pay bills.

Later in the year when finances are looking up (she'll be making close to my income, after she graduates in Sept - we'll be back on easy street again.) it would be a lot of fun to go plinking up there, before we hit the town! I'll shoot you a PM if we head up that way. Wife's very into shooting - I'm lucky in that regard. We even wear the same size tinfoil hat. :-)

Bummer! I've only shot auto once. It was at the machine gun shoot at Dragonmans. Seemed like a pretty big waste of ammo, but it was awesome nonetheless.

Contact is a good movie, but can't say its my favorite. I don't post more science/space stuff because I'm lazy. Cough cough, I mean efficient. Which is actually my motto: "Laziness breeds efficiency". And you better believe it when I tell you I'm the most efficient engineer out there! [LOL]

I've thought about making a photo tour presentation of the work that I do and how we observe with our telescope, but again, that'd be a lot of work. It isn't just a point it at the sky and take pictures telescope. We are doing a survey of the entire visible night sky. In fact, most of the data from http://www.google.com/sky/ and http://www.wikisky.org/ come from our telescope. The first 2 surveys were optical imaging. We're on the third survey which is focused on spectroscopy, one instrument looks for the ripples left in space from the big bang (in short) and the other is looking at everything in the center of the milky way galaxy. It is the most sensitive ground based IR camera in the world, so in the 1.5yrs that its been in operation, it has produced phenomenal data. In fact, so much so, that they're going to build a second instrument to put in the southern hemisphere and observe that entire night sky too!

Aw, heck, I'll see what I can do about a photo tour...or at least using a promotional video that our observatory developed.

Here's something to keep you busy for a while though. It is a compilation of galaxy images that were made into a video corresponding to their positions relative to the Milky Way. As in, if we could actually fly through space, we'd see these exact galaxies in the exact positions. The only change, is that the galaxy sizes were increased by a magnitude of 10, so that you could actually see structure to them. Read the description for a little more insight into how large our project is.

Yeah those "toe shoes" have a whole different feel to them. They require you to run more on the balls of your feet, instead of rolling from your heel to your toes like most people were taught to run.

I run in the Fila version... Skeletoes. They are cheaper and they fit my wide feet better. They are also kind of a blend because they have a sole like a Nike Free.
